Donating to the Student Venture Fund at The University of Akron

Student Venture Fund at The University of Akron (SVFUA), Northeast Ohio’s first student-run Evergreen venture fund, offers a unique opportunity for donation. By donating to SVFUA, organizations, foundations and individuals can participate in an experiential education process, through which graduate students in disciplines ranging from business and law to engineering and industrial/organizational psychology will gain hands-on experience in entrepreneurship and angel investment.

SVFUA’s student participants:

  • Attend training sessions on entrepreneurial finance
  • Take part in regional venture capital meetings
  • Screen applicant companies
  • Investigate the viability of technology, marketing and business plans, and
  • Recommend micro investments of $10,000 to $25,000 for companies that have successfully completed due diligence

The Student Venture Fund not only gives students experience with entrepreneurship and finance, but provides constructive criticism and financial support to vulnerable early stage companies. The Fund has targeted to raise $100,000 this academic year to invest in two to four companies, providing extensive feedback for all participants.

Individuals and groups that donate to the Fund receive:

  • A tax deduction, because of SVFUA’s status as a 501(c)(3) that can fund private companies and collect returns on the investment
  • Semester updates on the Fund and its participating companies
  • Opportunities to recommend deal flow to the Fund
  • A synergistic link to The University of Akron and Northeast Ohio entrepreneurs
  • Seats on the Fund’s advisory board may be awarded to eligible donors
