What Stays Home
The following items are not permitted in residence hall rooms. Of course, this is not a complete list, just some of the most common things that wind up in the car or van for the ride back.
- pets (except fish, and tanks must not exceed 20 gallons);
- toasters, toaster ovens, hot plates, electric skillets - any cooking devise with an open heating element;
- percolator;
- "George Foreman" grills and their clones;
- oil popcorn poppers;
- vacuums (units are available at the service desk of each hall);
- refrigerators larger than 3.0 cu. Ft.;
- halogen lamps (unless they carry the Underwriters Laboratories approved stickers);
- sun lamps;
- electric blankets;
- weapons of any type;
- candles/incense/potpourri burners;
- electric space heaters;
- air conditioners;
- water beds;
- dartboards;
- contact paper and/or wallpaper;
- nails, screws, other types of fastener hardward;
- outlet adapters;
- "glow-in-the-dark" stars.
Use this simple rule of thumb: leave it at home if an item presents (A) a safety hazard; (B) an annoyance to others; or (C) a likelihood of damaging your room or furnishings.
