2018

Aug. 21, 2018 | University of Akron police are asking for any information you may have related to a reported robbery that occurred at 4:30 p.m. today in the 400 block of Sumner Street, about one-quarter of a mile south of campus. 

The victim told police that a man approached him, showed a knife and robbed him. The subject then ran south on Sumner Street, away from campus.

The victim, who is not a student, was not physically harmed. 

The suspect is described as a black male standing about 6 feet, 1 inch, wearing tan pants and no shirt. Blue underwear was visible.

July 17, 2018 | The City of Akron Police Department and The University of Akron Police Department are asking for any information you may have related to an aggravated burglary that occurred in the 500 block of East Exchange Street late last evening.

Four to six individuals entered a private home through an unlocked door while the residents were present and stole a number of items. A weapon was shown, but no-one was injured. Descriptions of the suspects are not available at this time.

Feb. 18, 2018 | University of Akron police are asking for any information you may have related to a robbery reported to have occurred at 6:40 p.m. today at Wolf Ledges Parkway and University Avenue. A 45-year-old man said another man hit him with a beer bottle and robbed him. The suspect ran east on University Avenue.

The victim, who is not a student, said he knows the suspect and described him as a 6 foot tall black male in his 50s, wearing a blue hat and blue hoodie. Police continue to look for the suspect. The victim was treated at the scene.

Jan. 25, 2018 | A student reported to University police tonight that she was sexually assaulted by someone she knows in the Arts & Sciences Building at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24.

No additional information is available as to where in the building the incident occurred. 

The suspect, who also is a student, is described as a black male, standing about 5 feet, 5 inches tall. No further description is available.

Why are we sending this advisory?

We send an email advisory when a crime of a serious or ongoing nature has been reported to university or city police and when a set of criteria have been met. Our advisories have two purposes: To encourage you to take appropriate precautions and to help police collect information that may lead to an arrest or conviction. Past advisories have yielded useful tips.

Dec. 13, 2017, 3:45 p.m. | A student reported to University police that she was fondled against her will about midnight Monday by an 18-year-old male known to the victim. The student informed UAPD that the suspect entered her room after knocking on the door. She said she asked him to stop his actions and he left the room.

The suspect, who also is a student, is described as 5’ 10” tall, weighing approximately 230 pounds.

What are police doing?

Nov. 22, 2017, 12:56 a.m. | City of Akron and University of Akron police are asking for any information you may have related to a shooting reported at about 12:10 this morning off campus at Wheeler and Sherman streets.

A male was walking east on Wheeler when a dark vehicle approached from the west. The car slowed, and someone took two shots at the man. The man, who is not a student, was hit in the arm. His injury is not believed to be life-threatening.

No description of the shooter or shooters is available. The vehicle continued west on Wheeler.

Nov. 8, 2017, 10 a.m. | University police remind students to lock their doors and windows after a report yesterday of three people entering a house through an unlocked door and ransacking the house. The incident occurred at 6 p.m. Tuesday south of campus in the 300 block of East Thornton Street.

Akron police afterward stopped three suspects nearby, but the victim, who was unharmed, was unable to make a positive identification. One was arrested on an unrelated warrant.

Police also recommend that you ask your landlord to install a peephole if you don’t already have one. In this case, the victim heard a knock on the door and looked through the peephole. Not recognizing any of the three, the victim did not open the door and returned upstairs. That’s when the three entered through the unlocked door.

Oct. 20, 2017, 9:10 a.m. | University of Akron police with specially trained dogs are inspecting the Polsky Building after a bomb threat was called in to our Physical Facilities Operations Center at 7:45 a.m. today.

Police do not believe the threat is credible, and in keeping with our long-standing practices, the building remains open and classes are being held. Should police find anything suspicious in the building, an evacuation would occur and we would notify you.

Anyone found responsible for placing the call would be subject to prosecution under state and federal laws, and to University discipline if applicable.

Update sent at 11:45 a.m.Police have concluded their inspection of the Polsky Building. Nothing suspicious was found. The building remains open and classes will be held as usual.

Police are now working to determine who called in the threat. Sept. 17, 2017 | City of Akron and University of Akron police are asking for any information you may have related to a shooting reported at about 2:30 this morning at the corner of Brown and Wheeler Streets in parking lot 5.

A late model, white Chevrolet Cobalt with three occupants entered the parking lot. The driver exited the car, approached the other vehicle and fired a single shot. The Cobalt then left heading West on Wheeler toward Grant Street.

The shooter is described as a black male, 5'5", weighing 150 pounds.

The driver of the other vehicle, a non-UA student, was injured and taken to a nearby hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

May 1, 2017 | City of Akron and University of Akron police are asking for any information you may have related to a shooting reported at about 12:20 this afternoon off campus at Power and Kirn streets.

A silver Pontiac was traveling east on Power Street and stopped at the intersection of Kirn Street. Behind it was a gold Mitsubishi Galant. One or more people in the Pontiac leaned out of the windows and shot at the Galant. Both cars continued east on Power Street, north on Spicer and then east on Gage Street.

There were no initial reports of injuries.

No description of the shooter or shooters is available.

April 27, 2017 | City of Akron and University of Akron police are asking for any information you may have related to a shooting reported at about 7:50 this evening off campus at a business in the 400 block of East Exchange Street.

A clerk in a store reported that three men with guns entered the store and fired shots. One shot hit a clerk, who is being treated.

The three suspects are black males, all wearing bandannas over their faces and white gloves. A witness said the three got into a silver car and headed south.

The first suspect is about 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing about 160 pounds. He was wearing a black vest, gray pants and dark shoes.

The second suspect is about 6 feet and 220 pounds. He was wearing a white t-shirt under a black hoodie.

The third suspect stands about 6 feet also, weighing about 185. No description of his clothing was available.

March 6, 2017 | On Sunday March 5, 2017, a female student reported to The University of Akron Police Department that she was sexually assaulted by a male student known to the victim in a residence hall room in Quaker Square Residence Hall. The incident, reported to have occurred early Sunday morning, is under investigation.

Feb. 21, 2017 | University of Akron police are asking for any information you may have related to a shooting reported at about 1:15 p.m. today off campus on South Adolph Street, which is east of Route 8 near Akron City Hospital.

The victim, who is not a student, reported that he was shot in the foot by an unknown man. The subject ran west through backyards.

The victim was unable to provide a description of the subject. The victim is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Nov. 25, 2016 | Akron police are asking for any information you may have related to a robbery reported to have occurred about 7 p.m. today in the 400 block of Kling Street, south of campus.

A man said he was walking on Kling when two males stopped him and asked for directions. Two other males came up behind him, and one of them showed a gun.

The four were described as black males, wearing dark clothing and with dark stocking caps covering their faces.

The victim was not physically harmed.

Nov. 10, 2016 | City of Akron and University police are asking for any information you may have related to an abduction and attempted sexual assault said to have occurred between 4 and 5 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6 on Sherman Street south of campus. The victim said she was walking to campus when a vehicle pulled up and the driver offered her a ride. Once inside the vehicle, she was coerced to engage in unwanted contact. The woman was able to exit the vehicle near Hammel Street, and she drew attention of a bystander, who called City of Akron police. 

The driver is described as a black male, 50-60 years of age with freckles and teeth in poor condition. He was driving a white or silver truck with a ladder rack on the top.  The passenger side window was broken out and covered with clear plastic.

The victim was treated for minor injuries and released.

On Jan. 3, City of Akron police made an arrest in connection with this incident.


Oct, 27, 2016 | University of Akron police are asking for any information you may have related to a shooting reported at 9:05 p.m. today on Kirn Street, south of campus.

A woman was walking with others when a silver, late-model Ford Mustang pulled up. Someone in the car fired a shot, hitting the woman in the foot. The car continued down Kirn, turned east onto Power Street and left the area.

The victim was taken to Summa Akron City Hospital, where she is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

No description of the shooter was available.

September 14, 2016 | University police are seeking any information you may have related to incident that occurred about 2:10 this afternoon in the South Campus Parking Deck (Lot 36).

A woman in her vehicle was approached by a man who asked for directions. Attempting to help, the woman looked up information on her cell phone. The man reached in the vehicle and put his hand down her shirt. He walked away, entered a gray car and drove away. The gray car had temporary tags, beginning with “D” and “O.” The woman did not require medical treatment. No weapon was shown.

The man is described as a tall, light-skinned black male, weighing about 160 pounds and in his 20s. He was wearing a light gray or light green T-shirt.


September 11, 2016 | University of Akron police are asking for any information you may have related to an assault reported at about 3:10 this morning at Sherman and Wheeler streets, south of campus.

A man said he was physically assaulted and robbed by a tall, heavy set, black male in an orange T-shirt. The suspect was with five other black males, the victim said.

The victim was treated for minor injuries.

September 7, 2016 | City of Akron and University police are asking for any information you may have related to a shooting that occurred about 2:40 p.m. today near Rentschler and Power streets, south of campus.

A witness described the shooter as a black male wearing a blue hoodie and gray sweatpants. He was accompanied by two other black males, one wearing a red shirt and the other, a black and yellow hoodie. The three were observed on video driving north on Rentschler Street in a silver car. No further description was immediately available.

A victim was being treated at Cleveland Clinic Akron General. Early indications are that the victim is not a student.


June 3, 2016 | City of Akron and University police are asking for any information you may have related to an attempted assault which occurred just before 5:40 a.m. today near Exchange Street and Kathryn Place.

The victim, a UA student, was walking to her campus job when a man approached her asking for directions. The suspect then grabbed her arm, threatened to rape her and exposed himself. The victim punched the suspect in the face and ran to a campus facility, calling 9-1-1. The victim was not harmed. The direction the suspect fled is unknown.

The suspect was described as a black male, standing 5'5"-5'8", skinny, wearing a navy shirt, tan pants that were dirty, and having large lips.


May 13, 2016 | City of Akron police are asking for any information you may have related to an armed robbery that occurred at 12:45 a.m. today south of campus in the 400 block of Sumner Street.

The victim told police that a man exited the rear of a light green Toyota, showed a gun, ordered him to empty his pockets and hit him with the gun. The suspect then re-entered the car, which headed north on Sumner toward Exchange Street.

The victim did not require medical care.

The suspect is described as a black male, aged 19-20, weighing about 160 pounds and wearing an orange hoodie.

March 20, 2016 | University of Akron police are asking for any information you may have related to a robbery reported to have occurred about 9:30 p.m. Sunday off campus, in the 400 block of East Exchange Street.

A man reported that he was assaulted by another man with a knife in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant. The victim was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

The suspect is a white male, standing 5 feet, 8 inches, age 18 to 20 and weighing 170 to 180. He was wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt that said “Hoban.” He had blond facial hair. He fled south on Kirn Avenue.

March 18, 2016 | University of Akron police are asking for any information you may have related to an assault reported at about 12:15 this morning at a restaurant in the 200 block of East Exchange Street.

Two men reported they were assaulted in the parking lot by four males, one of whom displayed a gun. The suspects left in a silver/gray Chevrolet Cavalier, heading east on Exchange Street.

No injuries were reported.

Oct. 13, 2015 | University of Akron police are asking for any information you may have related to an armed robbery reported to have occurred about 5 tonight off campus, in the 500 block of Gage Street.

A man told his roommate that he was robbed by two unidentified males who entered the house and showed a gun. The roommate called police. Police have yet to be able to interview the victim.

No further description of the suspects is available.


Oct. 8, 2015 | University of Akron police are asking for any information you may have related to an armed robbery reported to have occurred shortly after 11 a.m. this morning near Schrank parking lot 37.

The victim says he was approached by a man and was shown a small silver weapon, and gave the suspect money and a wedding ring. The suspect fled south toward Exchange Street.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 30s-40s, medium-length hair, standing 6 feet tall and thin. He was wearing camouflage clothing.


Sept. 3, 2015 | University of Akron police are asking for any information you may have related to an attempted robbery said to have occurred around 6 tonight on a walkway near the Knight Chemical building.

The victim, a student, says she was on the walkway when she was grabbed from behind and felt an object pressed into her back. No weapon was seen, and she was able to get away from the suspect.

The victim was not physically harmed, and no property was taken.

The suspect is described as a white male in his late 20s, standing 6 feet tall and weighing about 180 pounds. He was wearing a black T-shirt and a cap of an unknown color. 


Aug. 6, 2015 | City of Akron police are asking for any information you may have related to an armed robbery that occurred at 12:45 a.m. today at a restaurant in the 200 block of Exchange Street.

The victim was making a delivery at the back of the building when a man displayed a black revolver and demanded the victim’s wallet. The suspect fled south on Sumner Street.

The victim was not physically harmed.

The suspect was described as a black male, standing 6 feet tall and weighing 250 pounds. He was wearing a black T-shirt and dark shorts. 


May 5, 2015 | City of Akron police are asking for any information you may have related to an armed burglary that occurred shortly after midnight today south of campus in the 400 block of Allyn Street.

The victim told police that four black men in their 20s and wearing dark clothing entered his house, stole some items and shot him. The victim, who is not a student, is recuperating in the hospital.

The four fled east toward Kling Street and were last seen on Wilson Street. Akron police continue to look for them.


March 18, 2015 | Police are asking for any information you may have related to the discharge of a rifle in the 80 block of East Exchange Street about 4 p.m. today.

No injuries were reported.

A witness spotted one person in an orange hoodie running away from the scene. The person met up with a second individual wearing a dark hoodie with red accents.

Oct. 28, 2014 | Police are asking for any information you may have related to a robbery reported Monday evening south of campus.

Arrest and conviction

A man was arrested and convicted of this crime. Details.

Akron police first received a tip at 10:40 Monday night, when a woman said she was approached by a man matching the description of robberies previously reported on Sunday.

Police received a second call at 10:55 p.m. Monday, when a second woman was robbed at knifepoint in the 300 block of Sherman Street.

At 11:10 p.m., witnesses spotted the man in the 600 block of Sherman Street, running south.

Witnesses report the robbery was carried out by a white man, standing about 5 feet, 10 inches tall in his late 20s, wearing a black leather jacket or black nylon windbreaker, baggy blue jeans, a white hat and having a blond beard.

No one was physically harmed.


Oct. 26, 2014 | Police are asking for information related to a reported robbery that occurred at 5:01 p.m. Sunday evening on Torrey Street, south of campus.

Arrest and conviction

A man was arrested and convicted of this crime. Details.

The victim was approached by a white male who showed a knife and demanded money. The victim complied and was not injured. The suspect ran north towards campus.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 30’s, wearing a long black shirt, baggy pants, and has spiky hair.


Aug. 10, 2014 | City of Akron police seek any information you may have about an aggravated burglary reported to have occurred at 1:50 a.m. today in the 500 block of Carroll Street.

The victim said a man entered the house she was staying in through a first-floor unlocked window. The man threatened her, saying he had a weapon and indicating that he knew she was alone. He proceeded to take a number of valuables before leaving in an unknown direction.

The victim did not get a good look at the man because he instructed her not to look at him. Nevertheless, she did notice that he was a black male wearing a short sleeved shirt.

The woman was not physically harmed.

July 31, 2014 | University police seek any information you may have about an aggravated burglary reported to have occurred at 6:50 p.m. today in the 200 block of Spicer Street.

Update: University police announced an arrest in connection with this incident on Aug. 25.

The victim said a man walked through the unlocked front door of the house he was in, demanding money. The victim said no money was owed. The perpetrator then grabbed a laptop and as he was leaving, tussled with the victim, grabbing a screwdriver at one point and threatening the victim.

The perpetrator then exited and signaled to two young black women in a black Grand Prix in front of the house. He then ran toward Orchard Street, where police believe he jumped in the car.

The robber is described as a stocky black male about age 25, standing 5 feet, 5 inches tall, with short hair and a medium complexion. He was wearing a white tank top and baggy blue jeans.

The victim was not physically harmed.


June 1, 2014 | University police seek any information you may have about a robbery reported to have occurred at midnight Sunday in the parking lot of a business in the 400 block of East Exchange Street.

The victim said he was approached by two men who assaulted and robbed him. No weapon was shown.

A witness described both robbers as black men between the ages of 25 and 30. The first robber is described as stocky, standing about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, wearing an all-white T-shirt and light blue athletic pants. The second is about 6 feet, 2 inches tall, wearing a red shirt, black pants, white shoes and a Chicago Bulls’ hat.


May 26, 2014 | University police seek any information you may have about a robbery reported to have occurred about midnight Sunday in the 400 block of Allyn Street. The victim said a man approached him, displayed a gun and robbed him of his backpack. The robber ran north toward Bellewood Avenue.

The victim was not physically injured.

The perpetrator was described as a light-skinned black male standing about 5 feet 5 inches tall, wearing a black hoodie, gray sweats and newer Air Jordan shoes.


Jan. 24, 2014 | University police are asking for information you may have related to an attempted robbery reported to have occurred at 2:30 a.m. today off campus in the 400 block of East Thorton Street, south of Exchange Street.

A man and a woman were on the porch of their Thorton Street residence, preparing to enter, when two men approached. One man showed a gun and attempted to rob the two. The two were able to get into their residence unharmed, and they called police. Police followed the suspects’ footprints in the snow to Tyner Street, then to Brown Street, where the prints were lost.

The suspect with a gun was described as a black male wearing a gray facemask and a blue jacket. No description of the second suspect was available.


Jan. 18, 2014 | University police are asking for information you may have related to an incident reported to have occurred at 12:30 a.m. today on Vine Street, near the stadium.

The occupants of a house in the 400 block of Vine Street were holding a party. A group of about a dozen people entered the house to join the party, but they were asked to leave. When the group refused to leave, the police were called. A Vine Street neighbor told police that as the group departed, one of its members showed a gun. No shots were fired. The group departed on foot without further incident.

The man who showed a gun was described as a black male about age 20 with dreadlocks that had gold tips. He was wearing a black and white checkered hoodie. Witnesses said all members of the group were black males.


Jan. 14, 2014 | University police are asking for information you may have related to a robbery reported to have occurred off-campus at 3:05 a.m. today at Wheeler and Allyn streets, south of Exchange Street.

The victim was walking when a SUV approached. Two men exited the vehicle, assaulted the victim and robbed him. No weapon was shown. The men then fled south on Allyn Street. The victim was treated by EMS and released.

The vehicle is described as a two-tone Blazer, brown over gold, with temporary license tags.

The first suspect is a black male, 18 to 22 years old, with short hair, wearing a dark shirt with gold lettering. He was wearing earrings.

The second victim, a black male, was wearing a dark hoodie and jeans.


Dec. 15, 2013 | University police seek information you may have related to a robbery reported to have occurred off-campus at 3 a.m. today in the 400 block of Allyn Street, which is south of Exchange Street.

Three victims were approached by three suspects, who assaulted the victims and robbed them. A gun was shown. Afterward, the suspects ran north on Allyn Street.

All suspects are black males in their 20s.

The first is described as standing 5 feet, 11 inches tall, weighing 240 and wearing a gray hoodie.

The second is described as short, weighing 160 and wearing a dark, fitted hat.

The third is described as standing 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighing 160 and wearing a red hoodie.

The victims did not require immediate medical attention.


Dec. 8, 2013 | University police are asking for information you may have related to a robbery reported to have occurred off-campus at 3:10 a.m. today in the 200 block of Irisdale Place, which is south of Exchange Street.

The victim was approached by two suspects, who assaulted the victim and robbed him.  A gun was shown. The suspects ran west on Irisdale toward Sumner Street.

The first suspect is described as a heavy black male, standing 5 feet, 8 inches tall and wearing a gray sweater.

The second suspect is described as a black male with a thin build, standing 5-10, weighing about 160 and wearing a blue and black coat.

The victim did not require immediate medical attention.


Sept. 24, 2013 | University police are asking for information you may have related to a robbery reported to have occurred off-campus at 2:10 p.m. today near the intersection of Carroll and Beaver Streets, east of Route 8.

The victim was approached by two suspects asking to use a cell phone.  The two suspects then robbed the man of the phone. No weapon was shown.

The first suspect is described as a thin black male, early 20s, standing 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing about 130. He was wearing a black hoodie, black jeans, with short hair.

The second suspect is described as black male, medium build, early 20s, standing 6 feet, 1 inch, and weighing between 170 and 180.  He was wearing dark blue pants, a red hoodie, red hat, and black and red Jordan shoes.

Both suspects were described as wearing baggy clothes.


August, 30, 2013 | University police are asking for information you may have related to two incidents reported this morning.

The first incident occurred about 2 a.m. today on Buchtel Avenue between Hill and College streets, near Guzetta Hall. Two men, neither of whom is a student, were walking on Buchtel Avenue when a man exited a car, showed a gun and robbed them.

The car is black or blue. The robber was described as a black male in his 20s, about 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing 140 pounds and wearing a black hoodie. After the robbery, the car was driven west on Buchtel Avenue toward Hill Street.

No one was physically harmed.

The Akron Police Department received a report of a robbery carried out in similar fashion about 1 a.m. today east of campus on Roselawn Avenue near Excelsior Avenue. That's east of Route 8.

Another incident occurred at about 2:25 a.m. today south of campus, on Wheeler Street near Rentschler. Two women, one of whom is confirmed to be a student, observed two suspects exit a car and walk eastbound on Wheeler. One of suspects unsuccessfully tried to take a purse. He and the other suspect ran eastbound on Wheeler and then north on Sherman. No weapon was seen, and no one was physically harmed.

The first suspect is described as a black male between 18-23, standing 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds. He had shoulder-length dreadlocks and was wearing a red T-shirt and jeans.

The second suspect is a black male between 18-23, standing about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds and wearing a blue T-shirt and jeans. His head was shaved.


May 28, 2013 | University police are asking for information you may have related to an attempted robbery reported to have occurred at 3 a.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Rankin Street, south of campus.

The victim was approached by a man as she stood on the porch of her residence, unlocking the door. The man showed a pistol, but the woman was able to get into the house and lock the door without being harmed. No possessions were taken.

The robber is described as a thin black male, age 19-22, standing 5 feet,  7 inches tall with a light complexion. He was wearing a black and yellow Pittsburgh Pirates baseball cap and a denim jacket.


Feb. 14, 2013 | The Polsky Building is closed. Police are investigating a report of a person inside with a weapon. We will let you know when the building reopens.

Follow-up: The person spotted carrying a weapon was in fact a recruit studying in Summit College's Police Academy. The student, returning from a training exercise, was carrying equipment used during the exercise. The equipment included a plastic weapon.

The student has apologized for the accidental oversight, and the commander of the academy has said he will review with all students the proper protocol for transporting training equipment on campus. The student will not be charged.


Jan. 26, 2013 | University police are asking for any information you may have related to an armed robbery reported to have occurred at 11:10 p.m. Friday on Rentschler Street, south of campus.

No one was physically harmed.

The victim said two males robbed him. The first was described as a black male with a beard about age 20, wearing baggy jeans and a hoodie, standing 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing about 160. The second was described as a clean-shaven black male, about age 20-25, wearing a gray hoodie and baggy pants. The pair ran north on Rentschler.

Nov. 2, 2012 | University police are asking for any information you may have related to shooting reported to have occurred off campus at 3 p.m. today near the 100 block of Annadale, east of Route 8.

Witnesses described the shooter as a skinny black male wearing red shoes. He fled north to Spruce Street, where he entered a small silver vehicle, which then headed north to Market Street. No further description of the suspect is available.

Police recommend that if you are in the neighborhood, remain in your home.

One person was injured and has been taken to the hospital.


Oct. 25, 2012 | University police are asking for any information you may have related to an attempted armed robbery reported to have occurred at 3:15 this morning behind a business at East Exchange and Allyn streets, south of campus. No one was physically harmed.

The victim described the robber as a black male with long dreadlocks, clean-shaven, wearing blue sweat pants with a white stripe, and a gray hoodie with the Echo-brand red rhino on it. The robber is about age 20, stands 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighs about 175. The robber showed a gun and fired it past the victim.


Oct. 18, 2012 | University police are asking for any information you may have related to an attempted armed robbery reported to have occurred at 9:45 this evening in a parking lot in the 200 block of Spicer Street. About 15 minutes later, a robbery was reported at Kling and Exchange streets.

No one was physically harmed in either incident.

Witnesses described two men in both incidents, and the descriptions were similar. The first man is slim and black, wearing a black ski mask with a white stripe, a black hoodie, a white baggy shirt with an emblem and black pants. The second man is heavy set and black, wearing a black ski mask with a small brim, a black hoodie and black pants.


Oct. 8, 2012 | University Police are investigating a report of gross sexual imposition, which occurred Saturday night in the 400 block of Sumner Avenue, south of the University’s campus.  The suspect physically touched and attempted to restrain the victim during the incident. The victim was not physically injured. During the investigation of this incident, UAPD learned that the suspect is believed to be the same individual who is alleged to have engaged in additional incidents of lewd behavior, exposing himself to other women in the same area. 

The suspect is described as a black male in his 20’s, 5’9”-5’11”, with dreadlocks to his shoulders.  He is believed to drive a silver Chevy Impala. 


Sept. 7, 2012 | University police are asking for any information you may have related to a reported robbery said to have occurred at 5:52 this evening on Sumner Street, just south of Exchange Street. No weapon was involved. The victim was not physically harmed. Police are looking for a black male, about 20 years old, weighing about 140 pounds with a thin, clean-shaven face. The man was wearing tan Levi's jeans, an orange Abercrombie & Fitch hoodie and a neon green Oregon Ducks cap. 

Nov. 28, 2011 | University police are asking for any information you may have related to a reported robbery said to have occurred at 9:22 this morning at a bookstore in the 400 block of East Exchange Street.

Two males are sought. Both are black, wearing black clothes and black masks. A weapon was shown. No one was injured.

Nov. 22, 2011 | A student told University police that while walking down the stairs of the East Campus Parking Deck at 3 p.m. today, a man confronted him and demanded his keys. The student told the man he didn't have any keys and the man ran off. The student was uninjured, and no weapon was shown.

The suspect is described as a white male, wearing white athletic shoes, blue jeans and a black hoodie.

University police were nearby, but no one matching the description was observed.

Nov. 22, 2011 | City of Akron and University of Akron police are seeking information related to a reported robbery said to have occurred at 10 a.m. today off campus in a home in the 500 block of Renchler Street, south of Exchange Street.

The suspect is a black male, about 6 feet inches tall with dreadlocks. He was wearing a black hoodie, black pants, Michael Jordan 13 shoes and a red bandanna over his face. A weapon was shown.

Nov. 9, 2011 | A man reported to University police that he was robbed while walking at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday off campus in the 200 block of Torrey Street.

The suspects are black males, both with thin builds and standing about 5 feet, 10 inches tall. One was wearing a blue hoodie. The other wore a red, puffy coat and had short hair. A knife was shown.

The victim was not physicially harmed. The suspects ran south on Sumner Street. Police arrived within minutes, but could not locate them.

Nov. 7, 2011 | City of Akron police have advised us about a reported robbery said to have occurred at 8:45 tonight off campus in the 400 block of Grant Street.

Both suspects were described as black males, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall. One was wearing an olive-colored hoodie and Ken Griffey shoes. The other was wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans. A weapon was shown. No one was physically harmed.

Oct. 15, 2011 | City of Akron police have advised us that suspects are in custody related to an incident in which individuals were shot following a fight early today at a large, off-campus party in the 600 block of Sherman Street, near Interstate 76.

City of Akron police are asking for information from witnesses or from anyone who was in the area of the party at that hour.

Oct. 1, 2011 | University Police have been advised by the Summit County Sheriff's Office that the Sheriff's Office received a report of an assault and robbery that occurred near campus early this morning. The reported assault and robbery occurred at 2:58 a.m. Saturday in the 300-block of East Exchange Street.

The suspects have been described as two black males wearing dark clothes who then ran toward Sumner Street immediately following the incident.

Two students reported that they were robbed and assaulted. The suspects are five black males, wearing bandannas. No further description was available at this hour. The suspects left in a car and drove north.

Sept. 9, 2011 | Our police and city police are seeking information about a shooting early this morning that stemmed from an off-campus bar fight.

The incident occurred in University Lot 66, which is west of the Polsky Building parking deck and immediately east of the South Main Street bar where the fight apparently originated.

Two people, both UA students, were injured. Neither injury appears to be life-threatening. Police are interviewing witnesses.

Sept. 4, 2011 | University police are seeking information related to a robbery that occurred just before midnight Saturday at the EuroGyro near Exchange and Spicer streets.

A man showed a gun, robbed the clerk and fled south on Spicer Street. He was described as black, age 18 to 25, wearing green jogging pants, a T-shirt with cut-off sleeves and a black bandanna.

No one was physically injured.

Aug. 29, 2011 | Police are seeking information related to a robbery that occurred at 1:45 Monday morning in the 600 block of Sherman Street.

A student was walking on Sherman when approached by three males. After a brief conversation, one of the males showed a knife and asked for the student's valuables. The student tossed an MP3 player toward the men and ran.

The student, who was not harmed, called police immediately. Police arrived within 3 minutes, but could not locate the suspects.

The three males are black and in their 20s. One was 6 feet tall, wearing a red T-shirt, braided hair and goatee. The second suspect was under 6 feet tall, and he wore a black hoodie. The third was also under 6 feet tall, and he was wearing a white hoodie.

Aug. 28, 2011 | University police have arrested two men and seek two others in connection with a robbery and assault that occurred near the Phi Sigma Kappa house at 480 Carroll St. The incident occurred at 1:30 Sunday morning. No weapon was involved.

The victim, a student, called police immediately after the incident. A University officer spotted four men matching the description near Orchard Street. The four ran. Additional patrols arrived, and two suspects were arrested. Neither of the two is a University student.

The two men at large are described as black males wearing black clothing. No further description was available.

Aug. 24, 2011 | University police are seeking information related to a reported robbery that occurred at 9:50 a.m. today at Allyn and Cross streets, in the neighborhood south of campus.

A student walking in the neighborhood told police that a man stopped him and asked if he had a phone. The suspect then grabbed the student's MP3 player, struck him with it and ran off.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s, standing about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and wearing black clothing.

In response to this and other incidents, University and city police have increased patrols and surveillance in the neighborhood. Further, robbery detectives from the city and the University are following leads as they develop.

Aug. 22, 2011 | Two UA students reported to University police today that they were robbed and assaulted in an incident that occurred at 2 a.m. Sunday near Brown and Crouse streets, in the neighborhood south of campus.

The students say a group of six men approached them. After asking for directions, one of the men displayed a gun and robbed the students. The gun did not discharge; however, one student was injured during the assault.

The six men were black. No further description was available.

Aug. 14, 2011 | Police are asking for information related to a robbery that occurred at 1:20 Sunday morning in the 500 block of E. Buchtel Ave. The location is east of campus and east of Route 8.

The resident told police that a man kicked in a door, entered the house and removed a couple of laptops.

The robber fled on foot in an unknown direction and fired a shot in the air as he left. No injuries have been reported.

The robber is described as a black male, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, 180 pounds with a goatee. He was wearing a camouflage shirt and dark pants.

Additional police officers have been and will continue to be assigned to this neighborhood.

Aug. 13, 2011 | Police are asking for information related to a reported robbery and assault that occurred at 1:25 Saturday morning near Carroll and Annondale streets. The location is east of campus, and east of Route 8.

Of the five men involved in the incident, two have been identified and questioned by the Akron Police Department. None of the three victims was a UA student.

The five men were described as black, with four of them wearing dark clothing. The fifth man was wearing a gray T-shirt. No weapon was seen.

Aug. 12, 2011 | The city of Akron Police Department and University Police are asking for your assistance following a report of a robbery at a residence at 552 Buchtel Ave. around 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

The man, who is not a UA student, said he was sitting on his porch when an unidentified male walked up, displayed a handgun, took the victim’s wallet and laptop, and fled the area on foot. 

The man with the gun is described as a black male in his twenties and wearing all black clothing.

Aug. 2, 2011 | University Police are reporting that the EuroGyro trailer at Spicer and E. Exchange Sts. was robbed of cash at about 10:05 tonight. The suspect, who showed a black handgun, is described as a black male, 5'11" and wearing a blue ballcap, blue shirt with yellow and blue checkered shorts. He was last seen running south on Spicer St.

July 20, 2011 | University police are seeking information about the man pictured to the right, who is wanted for questioning related to a sexual assault that occurred south of campus at 22 E. Exchange St. on July 6.

In recent days, three other women have told police about unusual encounters with the man. These encounters, which took place in Highland Square, in Cuyahoga Falls and on Akron's westside, began with the man introducing himself as a university student and saying he needed to interact with the woman as part of a fraternity initiation.

None of the other victims were attacked, probably because they did not agree to his request to move to a different location.

The suspect is a white male, age 22 to 26, standing about 6 feet tall and weighing 180 pounds. He has short, blond hair, a fair complexion and he wears glasses. He was riding a bicycle.

July 18, 2011 | Police are asking for your assistance following a report of a robbery south of campus on Saturday, July 16.

A man walking to his home reported to police that he was robbed between 10 p.m. and midnight near Wheeler Street and Kathyrn Place.

The man, who is not a UA student, said three men approached him, and after a scuffle, one displayed a pistol and demanded the man's wallet and cell phone. 

The man with a gun is described as a black male, 6 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing 200 pounds with a thin build and short black hair. The other two men were also described as black. No further details were provided by the victim.

The victim was not physically harmed. He did not notify police of the incident for nearly 24 hours.

June 28, 2011 | A delivery driver reported to city police that he was robbed at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of a business in the 400 block of East Exchange Street, which is in the neighborhood south of campus.

Police are seeking a black man between age 20 and 30, standing 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing 160 to 180. The man was wearing a red shirt and dark shorts.

May 9, 2011 | Two UA students reported they were robbed at about 9:50 p.m. on Friday, May 6 at Brown and Crouse streets, south of campus.

April 18, 2011 | A student reported to UA police that he was robbed and assaulted by two men in their 20s at about 1:10 p.m. today in the North Campus Parking Deck.

The first male is black, 6 feet, 2 inches tall with an average build, short hair and a light beard. He was wearing a blue nylon jacket.

The second male is black, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with thick glasses. He was wearing a gray Zips hoodie.

Both men got in a waiting older-model, gray, four-door Cavalier driven by a white male.

March 31, 2011 | Police are asking for any assistance you can provide related to a robbery that occurred at 7:30 Wednesday night in Gallucci Hall.

Two UA students reportedly stepped off the elevator on the fifth floor and were robbed at gunpoint. Neither student was physicially harmed. The alleged robbers were described as three black men, one of whom was about 6 feet, 4 inches tall. No further description of the three is available.

Jan. 31, 2011 | City and University police are asking for your assistance in helping to identify a group of males who were involved in an aggravated robbery at 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

Two students reported they were robbed at gunpoint in the 600 block of Sherman Street by a group of males. One student was treated and released at a local hospital after he was struck in the head during the incident.

The suspects, all of whom were black, drove away in a red, four-door Pontiac Grand Am. No further description of the suspects or the car was available.

Jan. 19, 2011 | Two UA students reported to police that three men robbed them at their apartment in the 400 block of Brown Street after the students answered a knock on the door.

One suspect was described as 6 feet, 1 inch tall and the second was 5 feet, 9 inches tall. All three suspects are black and they were wearing black clothing. No further description is available for the third suspect.

The incident occurred at about 7:45 on Wednesday night.
