It has been my pleasure to have spent my eighteen years in the workforce in the service industry in various roles requiring excellence in customer service. My employment at the University of Akron began in the year 2000 in the role of Cashier. I believe this allowed me the opportunity and ability to relate to many students and staff. I enjoyed working with the students and fellow staff members that I encountered. My experience contributed to the development of the insight and ability to recognize the needs of our students and staff. In 2001 I entered the role of Personnel Records Processor in Human Resources Information Services. My transfer to Human Resources inspired me to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. I enrolled in the College of Business Administration in the year of 2000 and due to the increase in the use of technology in the workforce I diligently worked toward my recent completion of both a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management and in Management Information Systems. While working toward the completion of my degree requirements, I have successfully and proudly raised three children currently the ages of 9, 11 and 13 years old. In February of 2002, I became a Human Resource Information Services Specialist. I was responsible for the training, support and execution of Graduate Assistant and Part Time Faculty employment processing. It was this position that began the development of my rapport with my fellow staff in the role of departmental support for the processing of various employment forms. I also worked closely with the Payroll, Resource Analysis and Budgeting and Controllers office in order to facilitate the payroll process and ensure accurate processing. My responsibilities changed with a promotion to the position of Human Resources Information Services Coordinator in the fall of 2004. In this role I now work with the Administration and Faculty of the University as the Liaison to the Board of Trustees Office and continue to work with many staff contacts across campus in the processing of Faculty and Contract Professional employment forms.
As your elected SEAC delegate I would share my strategies for proactively seeking out change, setting goals and the opportunity for staff members to have an active part in the changes and development of our University. I would strive for the recognition of achievements and excellence. The workforce of an organization is an important building block of the foundation for its success. I will continue to improve the environment for our workforce by diplomatically representing our voices and our ideas about the many issues that directly impact our staff and our organization. A business is set apart not only by the services it offers but more often by the service it provides. I look forward to having a part in the further development of a University known not only for its academic programs and commitment to its students but also for the commitment to customer service and to its employees.
I would like to conclude by voicing my sincere gratitude for the nominations I received allowing me to be considered as a candidate to represent my colleagues. I look forward to the opportunity to serve on the SEAC committee. I welcome the chance to successfully achieve the goals and implement the ideas offered by the members of our campus community. I pledge to effectively represent my fellow staff and committee members toward the objectives of communication, continued improvements and excellence.
