SEAC SURVEY

Dear Fellow Staff Members,

At no other time in the history of The University of Akron has staff input been requested as highly as it has been in the past few years. The administration has requested nominations from the Staff Employees Advisory Committee (SEAC) for representatives in a number of key committees, namely; The Operations Advisory Committee, A new parking advisory committee, A new benefits and insurance committee and lastly the one I bring to your attention today, a committee to develop a proposed University Council.

Joy Licause and I have been your SEAC representatives to this committee since the fall of last year when it was created by Faculty Senate. Representatives of Faculty Senate, SEAC, CEPAC, Council of Dean, Department Chairs, Vice Presidents, and Student Government have met on a weekly basis to discuss what a University Council should do and how it would “fit” within the structure of the current university governance already in place. This committee has created a “draft” proposal that is a starting place for us in the creation of a representative organization consisting of all members of our campus community .

At this time, the committee is interested in hearing comments from the University Community on the merits of the proposal. Your voice and opinion are most important at this time. In our democratic society, our strength is in our vote and our voice. I ask that you take the time to review the draft proposal document for University Council and respond to the questions raised in a “staff-minded” voice so that our needs and concerns are recognized and accounted for.

Please take the 15 minutes or so necessary to review this document and give us your feedback as we endeavor to create a council structure that is equitable and responsive to all constituencies of the campus community. We need your input by the end of this week (Friday 2/23/07) so that we may collate the data and return to the committee with it by next week.

I would also ask that you talk to your fellow staff members and encourage their participation in this most important project!
