The Board of the University of Akron Women in Higher Education is seeking to encourage you and members of your department to join our organization. We invite all faculty, staff, graduate students and retirees to join us. I am attaching the 2011-2012 membership form for completion by interested parties and which should be mailed to Connie Heldenfels, Treasurer, WIHE at +1401 at their earliest convenience.

It is always exciting to start a new academic year and I am excited for the events and programs that will be held this year! As a professional organization to the women (and men!) of the University’s campus community, we are always looking for innovative ideas, anyone interested in building their development opportunities, and campus community members who want to network, socialize, and enjoy the company of those we work as we continue to develop ourselves as individuals and professionals!

Throughout this website you will find officer contact information, schedules of events, pictures from previous events, and membership information.  Please feel free to contact us with any questions or suggestions as we want YOU to feel like you are part of an organization that has a lasting impact on you! Remember, even small endeavors have a large impact. Every seemingly little bit of time and effort will go a long way toward making this a memorable, enriching, and fun year!

WIHE Mission

The University of Akron Women in Higher Education organization has five main goals:

  1. The organization shall provide support in a visible way for the advancement of women at The University of Akron and at any other institution of higher education.
  2. The organization shall promote the professional development of women by providing information on the availability of further formal education, by promoting the attainment of qualifying credentials, by providing moral support for those pursuing further education, by sharing resources for personal and professional growth, and by providing job information to further the upward mobility of women.
  3. The organization shall provide avenues for interaction with new women employees.
  4. The organization shall provide information on resources concerning women, The University of Akron, and higher education.
  5. The organization shall continue to identify current university priorities and campus issues which impact on the working environment of its membership.

An Invitation to Join!

Membership is open to all past and present personnel of The University of Akron, and their spouses, who have a concern about women's issues in higher education and who support the stated goals, objectives, and purposes of the organization.

The membership year begins in July and membership costs only $20.00 per year! Graduate assistants may join for just $5!

Print the membership application form and send your completed form and membership dues (check payable to UA Women in Higher Education) to Connie Heldenfels - Treasurer, WIHE at +1401.
