If you are pursuing a Master's in Higher Education Administration or similar degree at The University of Akron, Kent State University, or other nearby institution and your program requires an internship experience...look no further!

The Department of Student Judicial Affairs wants to create a comprehensive and valuable experience for you higher education development! We will work around your interests, abilities, and schedule to tailor the experience and opportunities to your strengths and personal goals.

What can I expect from my internship experience?

Due to the variety and frequency of our work, the internship can easily be structured around your current time commitments and the parameters of your program. As an intern in the department you can expect to find some of the following opportunities:

  • Observe or lead student conduct meetings
  • Communication through Zipmail and other forms of social media
  • Web content design
  • Development of creative sanctions
  • Institutional benchmarking
  • Recruitment of student hearing board members
  • Preparation and observation of University Hearing Boards
  • Lead student conduct meetings
  • Review cases and assign charges
  • Aid in presentations to students, faculty, and staff
  • Other duties as assigned

What do previous interns have to say about the experience?

“As a Higher Education Administration graduate student, I was looking for an opportunity to get my hands dirty in any area possible. With the internship at The University of Akron in the Department of Student Judicial Affairs I was able to do just that. I was not stuck behind a computer screen for ten hours a week; rather I was working and meeting with students about their conduct cases.

I was able to witness the process of hearing boards and work with all of the key players including police, students, faculty, health professionals, witnesses, and victims. With this experience, I feel that not only did I get an experience worth talking about, but I feel that I am much more prepared for my first job because of it. I now have a better understanding of another function in Student Affairs as well as myself. I am more aware of my abilities, challenges that I face, and my interests.

I highly recommend this position to anyone who is interested in delving into the world of conduct. Even if you are not interested in conduct, this opportunity is a great one for many transferrable skills.”
