General Fitness Floor Policies
(Applies to both Cardio & Strength Areas)

  • Use equipment at your own risk.
  • Clothing or personal belongings must be placed in lockers or cubbies. Lockers are available throughout the building. To help prevent equipment theft and tripping hazards, gym bags are not permitted on the Fitness Floor.
  • Appropriate attire as established by the SRWS is required. The following attire applies to all strength and cardiovascular equipment areas: (Entire Facility Dress Code)
    • Sleeved shirts that cover back and stomach – no tanks tops, sleeveless shirts, altered shirts (cut-off, tied up, rolled sleeves, etc.) or sports bras;
    • Athletic shorts or pants – no jeans or cargo pants/shorts unless walking on treadmill;
    • Athletic clothing appropriate for general public. Clothing should not be worn in such a way as to be offensive to other users. Attire that is of an inappropriate/offensive manner is prohibited and patrons will be asked to adjust and/or change attire.
  • Wear a clean pair of full-toed athletic shoes. All footwear must be dry and free of dirt and snow before participating; bringing a second pair of athletic shoes is strongly recommended. No boots, flip-flops, “croc” type shoes, or ballet shoes permitted.
  • Exercising or weight lifting is prohibited in any walkways.
  • Proper use of equipment is required. Improper use includes but is not limited to: standing on equipment or weights, stacking weights under equipment, hanging upside down from equipment, and top loading. Please ask SRWS staff for assistance if you are not familiar with equipment or for clarification of proper use.
  • Improper use of resistance bands prohibited:Wrapping around sharp equipment edges (i.e. around bottom of weight benches);Overstretching beyond manufacturer limits;Tying knots in them.
  • Wipe down all cardiovascular (rails, seats, control boards, etc.) or strength (pads, handles, etc.) equipment when finished with provided towel and cleaning supplies located throughout cardio and strength areas by spraying towel directly (never on equipment). Please be aware of your proximity to others when using the spray bottle.
  • Personal trainers and/or instructors, whether being compensated or not, who are not SRWS employees are prohibited. This policy is to reduce risk of injury to members and ensure trainers/instructors are covered by liability insurance.
  • TV Station Policies:
    • TVs will be set to primary stations during peak hours (Mon-Fri, 4-7pm) and will not be changed.
    • Members may ask as SRWS staff member to change the channel to any station listed for designated TV. The SRWS staff member will check with other users in the area to ensure they are not going to be disturbed by the channel change.
    • Members may not try to persuade or pressure other members into changing the channel.
    • During special times, such as March Madness or College Football Bowl Games, some variety of TVs may change to other categories.
    • Use of personal television (TV) remotes to change SRWS TV’s. Please ask SRWS staff to change TV to appropriate station.
  • SRWS has the right to limit or prohibit exercises/activities performed by patrons that are seen as hazardous or high risk to themselves or others, this includes but is not limited to:
    • Usage of novel fitness and/or recreation equipment not provided/approved by SRWS
    • Performing dangerous or disruptive activities that may cause harm, injury or damage to SRWS patrons and facilities
    • Utilizing SRWS equipment and/or recreation space for a purpose other than what it was designed for
    • Final judgment on what constitutes a violation of policy will be at the discretion of SRWS staff.
  • Final judgment on what constitutes a break in policy will be at the discretion of SRWS staff.


Strength Equipment Policies

  • Maintain control of weights at all times. Do not drop or throw weights.
  • Use of lock collars is required on all free-weight bars.
  • Weights must be re-racked on the appropriately marked rack position.
  • A maximum of 4 users per strength machine. Please allow others to work in with you between sets if applicable.
  • Plyometric activities may be conducted in the 2 court gym and any designated Olympic lifting stations in the weight room. Final interpretation of permissible activities is reserved for SRWC staff.
  • Equipment must remain in designated areas.
  • The use of any topical grip aid (i.e. chalk, liquids, sprays, lotions, etc.) is not permitted on the fitness floor.

Cardio Equipment Policies

  • Normally all cardio equipment has a 60 minute limit. During busy times all cardio equipment has a 30 minute limit. During busy times you may be required to sign-up for cardio equipment in 30 minute intervals spaced every half hour.
  • Extra clothing or personal belongings must be placed in lockers or cubbies. Lockers are available throughout the building.
  • Wear a clean pair of athletic shoes. A second pair of athletic shoes is strongly recommended. All footwear must be dry and free of dirt and snow before participating.
  • Return equipment to starting position.
  • Wipe down equipment when finished.
  • Gym bags and chalk are not permitted on the fitness floor.
  • Beverages permitted in closed, plastic containers only; food prohibited.
  • Properly dispose of gum.
  • Use equipment at your own risk.
  • Report any injuries, and facility or equipment irregularities to staff.

Group Exercise Policies

  • To insure the safety and enjoyment of participants, class participation is on a first come, first serve basis. Class size is determined by format.
  • There is 10 minute grace period after which class participation is closed to late- coming participants. This policy ensures proper warm up for participant safety.
  • Appropriate attire is required: full-backed t-shirts, unaltered tank tops, sports bras, athletic shorts or pants (no jeans or cargos).
  • Wear a clean pair of athletic shoes. All footwear must be dry and free of dirt and snow before participating. Shoes must have non-marking soles.
  • Keep personal items in provided cubbies or lockers.
  • Participants may not enter studios or designated pool area until directed by class instructor.
  • Participants are required to follow the instructed format.
  • Participants are required to return all equipment to its proper location.
  • Report any injuries, and facility or equipment irregularities to staff.
  • In order to promote cross training and promote all class types, instructors’ names will not be listed on printed schedules.
  • Beverages permitted in closed, plastic containers only; food prohibited.
  • Properly dispose of gum.

Track Policies

  • Spectators not allowed on third floor running area.
  • Walkers and slower runners use inside lane.
  • Clean running/cross training shoes only.
  • Patrons must follow direction sign.
  • The track is 1/10 of a mile. 10 laps in the middle lane equals 1 mile.
  • Participants are not permitted to utilize the stairs in the facility for any unintended purposes, including but not limited to:
    • Stretching
    • Running
    • Jumping
    • Sitting
    • Anything else deemed inappropriate or unsafe by the discretion of SRWS staff

Boxing Station Policies

  • Gloves or wraps required. Open gloves may be checked out at the front desk at no cost.
  • Socks or footpads required. No shoes or bare feet.
  • Spray towel and wipe down equipment after use.
  • Unhook double bag when not in use.
  • Report any injuries, and facility or equipment irregularities to staff.
