Rules for the various tests:

Bench Press Rules

  • Each participant will have three attempts
  • You can have anyone you’d like give you a lift off
  • Once the spotter’s hands leave the bar the judge will give you the bench command (if having a friend give you a lift-off, they must move away from the platform before the judge gives you the bench command)
  • Your butt must stay on the bench throughout the entire attempt
  • Feet must stay in contact with the floor throughout the entire attempt
  • The bar will be paused on the chest till the judge feels all momentum has stopped, then the judge will give you the press command
  • The bar cannot completely stop or go back towards your chest, once the elbows are locked out the judge will give you the rack command
  • Failure of the attempt or to follow all rules will result in a 0 for that attempt
  • Clips must be used
  • If the spotter touches the bar after the bench command is given the lift is considered over
  • Wrist wraps & a belt may be used, but no other supportive gear is allowed

Deadlift Rules

  • Each participant will have three attempts
  • Hand and feet placement may be however you’d like
  • Once the attempt has started you can not reset
  • The bar must continue in upward direction
  • No “hitching”, or resting the bar on your thighs
  • The feet cannot move during the attempt
  • Once the back, hips, and knees are locked out you must wait for the judge to give the “down” command
  • Clips must be used
  • No straps will be allowed, belt is allowed
  • Chalk is permitted and provided
  • The bar cannot go downward until the judge has given you that command
  • Failure of the attempt or to follow all rules will result in a 0 for that attempt

  Push-up Rules

  • Each participant will get three attempts to do as many push-ups as they can
  • In order for the rep to count nose must touch the blue block, elbows must make less than a 90 degree angle, and elbows must completely lock out at the top
  • The head must stay in line with the body (no dipping head downward)
  • Once you pick your hand and feet placement you cannot change
  • No other body part may touch the ground other than your hands and feet
  • The body must remain in the same position during the event (no yoga poses or arching butt up to rest)
  • No more than a 3 sec break in between repetitions- Judge will count when a break has begun -1 one thousand, 2 – one thousand, and then you must begin again before they say 3 – one thousand

  Pull-up Rules

  • Each participant will get three attempts to do as many pull-ups as they can
  • In order for the rep to count elbows must be fully extended at the bottom and then eyes must be above the bar at the top of the repetition
  • Once you pick your hand placement/position you cannot change
  • No more than a 3 sec break in between repetitions- Judge will count when a break has begun -1 one thousand, 2 – one thousand, and then you must begin again before they say 3 – one thousand
  • Chalk is permitted and provided
