The vision of the Outdoor Adventure program is to provide the University and greater Akron communities with quality adventure-based recreational programs that foster personal growth and wellness. We do this by inviting you to take a break from the rigors of daily life and experience some of our unique recreational and educational opportunities—or by renting you the equipment you need to create your own adventure. Through all of this, our main focus is to promote active lifestyles that are healthy and balanced, and to pass on knowledge and skills that allow for independent pursuit of lifelong recreation in the outdoors.
What opportunities do we provide? It starts with our indoor climbing center that has a 53.5 foot wall and accompanying bouldering arch. We offer a diverse collection of outdoor trips that include horseback riding, whitewater rafting, backpacking, mountain biking, and paddling. Throughout the school year we open the pool for kayaking, which is especially nice during the long Ohio winters. You can also attend one of our hands-on instructional clinics or certification courses to develop your skills in areas such as bike maintenance, climbing, paddling, wilderness first aid, and more.
Who Can Participate
Outdoor Adventure programs are available to University of Akron students, faculty and staff, recreation center members and the local community. Some programming is limited to students only and will be clearly identified in the program description.
