Professional Preparation

You will receive the skills and clinical proficiencies required to successfully sit for the Board of Certification examination and the State of Ohio licensure examination.

  • Program accredited through Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE)

  • Use multimedia technology to enhance classroom and laboratory learning

Clinical Experience

To qualify for state licensure, students are required by the state to complete 800 hours of documented, athletic training experience under the direct supervision of a certified athletic trainer.

You will be provided a variety of different clinical instructors and clinical experiences, including:

  • Male/female gender sports
  • Contact sports
  • Collision sports
  • In-season/off-season sports
  • Team/individual sports

Field experience (clinical experiences) can be completed at any of UA's affiliate health settings, which include health care facilities in the community:

  • Cleveland Clinic/Akron General Medical Center
  • Summa Health System
  • Physical Therapy Center for Family PT

Real-world Experience

You can expand your knowledge and skills by working at one of the college-operated centers:

  • Affiliated area high schools
  • Summit Orthopedic (outpatient rehabilitation centers)
  • UA Health Services, Student Recreation, Intercollegiate athletics
  • UA Health Services for general illness
  • UA Strength and Conditioning
  • Student Recreation and Wellness Center
