Design Development documents are the final design documents submitted to the University prior to the actual construction documents that will be provided to the construction manger, Welty Construction of Akron. In addition to the physical layout and structure of the stadium, the Design Development documents outline electrical, information technology, plumbing and other mechanical intricacies within the stadium. The University will have until mid-October to review and provide feedback on the Design Development documents. A 30-45 day turnaround is expected to transition from the Design Development documents to the Construction Documents, keeping intact an early winter start date for actual Stadium Construction. Akron, Ohio, Aug. 1, 2007 –– A new era is dawning for The University of Akron and its football program. At its regular meeting today, the University’s Board of Trustees approved the financing and construction plans for a $55 million, on-campus football stadium as part of the second phase of the New Landscape for Learning campus enhancement initiative. Construction of the stadium and field — named InfoCision Stadium and Summa Field, respectively — is scheduled to be complete for the Zips’ 2009 home opener against the University of Kentucky Wildcats on Sept. 12. As in other buildings constructed in UA’s ongoing campus enhancement, the stadium features a bold design of brick and glass. The stadium will be financed by a $30 million fund-raising campaign (of which $21 million already has been pledged) and bonds financed via stadium revenues. MORE “We are very proud to be able to play such an instrumental role in the creation of InfoCision Stadium - Summa Field,” said Summa Health System President & CEO Tom Strauss. “Akron is our home, and as a member of the University Park Alliance and a longtime friend and supporter of The University of Akron, we look forward to the opening of the stadium and the long-term impact that it will have in our community, both on and off of the playing field.” “Giving back to the community is one of the most important things that we do as an organization and why this project is so important to us,” said SummaCare President Marty Hauser. “InfoCision Stadium - Summa Field is about more than just football. It’s presence will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the local economy. Equally important, it helps the entire community by serving as yet another tool for The University of Akron to utilize when attracting students.” “Karen and I make this major gift towards the University and the community that has given us both so much throughout the years. The stadium will finally give the University the last link to the puzzle to help take the football program to the next level. It will also affect the entire University and I am blown away to see how far this University has come in recent years.” |
