Fall, 2011 STEMM Speaker Series

From August 31st to October 4th, 2011

This year the STEMM Speakers Series is an opportunity for all faculty to integrate current and important global issues into their courses.  This year the focus is on climate change. Faculty, students and community members will examine such topics as environmental and health impacts, green chemistry and alternative energy. 

This Speakers Series is meant to assist faculty with the following learning objectives:

  • Learn from experts in the field
  • Enhance critical thinking
  • Identify and analyze contemporary issues
  • Increase science literacy
  • Connects student to real-world applications
  • Heighten interest in STEMM

The Fall 2011 Topics are :

  • Developing the First National Climate Plan
  • Climate Change: Issues and Real Science  
  • Solving Problems through Green(er) Chemistry
  • Health Impacts from Natural Disasters
  • Offshore Wind Energy in Lake Erie
  • Lake Erie:  Living on the Edge
