The classroom isn’t the only place you should open your mind. Our campus abounds with opportunities to discover new interests, new talents and new friends.
There are more than 200 registered student organizations on campus, ranging from Associated Student Government to the Ski and Snowboard Club to the Future Physicians Club. You’ll find groups focused on academic interests, hobbies, politics, faith, ethnicity, music and careers. There are societies, clubs, councils, choirs, teams, bands, ministries, fraternities, sororities and governments.
We have 13 intramural sports and clubs, including traditional favorites like volleyball, basketball and flag football, as well as some new things to try, like innertube water polo, futsol and ultimate frisbee. Many intramural sports are held in the new Student Recreation and Wellness Center, so after the game, grab your friends and some floaties and chill out in the recreational pool’s lazy river.
One of the terrific benefits of attending a university like UA is the opportunity to join with other students who share your interests in one of our student organizations (altogether, there are more than 200 such organizations!). The Student Recreation and Wellness Center is the hub of health and recreation on campus. The rec center, one of the largest on Ohio's campuses, includes a 53-foot climbing wall, a lazy river, a running track, weight room and more. Details.
Housing: In 2007, we opened our 12th and largest residence hall, raising the number of living spaces on campus to more than 3,000. You can choose from a traditional room style with shared facilities, to apartment living with kitchens and private baths. Learn more about Residence Life and Housing.
Dining: Whether you’re craving subs or sushi, beef or shrimp, waffles or wonton soup, there’s an eatery on campus for you. In addition to the buffet-style meals served in newly renovated Robertson Café, there’s Union Market. With a rich history, The University of Akron’s intercollegiate athletics program is poised for an even brighter future with its emphasis on academics, new facilities (including InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field) and team success. With many demands on their time, commuter students can sometimes find it challenging to experience the richness of college life. But not at UA. We have established Commuter Central in the Student Union as a place for you to gather and socialize with friends between classes.
Plus, Commuter Central has highly trained staff members who plan events throughout the academic year to help commuter students connect with other students, succeed academically and experience college life.
