  • To teach students to apply and appreciate math and polymer science in the world around them.
  • To increase the math and science skills of high school students in order to prepare them for a university program of study in the sciences, mathematics or engineering.
  • To provide students with opportunities to use computers and learn how computer applications relate to science and research.

Program Highlights

  • Hands-on experiments focusing on synthesizing, processing and measuring properties of polymers
  • Computer applications to create simulations of polymer structures and their motions
  • An elective pre-engineering course encompassing both mechanical and electrical engineering
  • A study skills component that encourages creative thinking, time management strategies and improved reading skills
  • An independent research project supervised by University professors
  • Special guest lecturers who are engaged in cutting edge polymer design research
  • Mentoring and career shadowing by faculty and professionals
  • Career counseling

Summer Programs

  • Field trips to local manufacturing and research firms (Flexsys America, Advanced Elastomer Systems, Akron Polymer Training Center.)
  • Visits to cultural centers (National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center, Wilberforce, Ohio)
