The University of Akron is coordinating this service project with Rebuilding Together, a national organization dedicated to “enabling hundreds of homeowners and their families to return to their homes along the Gulf Coast.”

Rebuilding Together Gulf Coast Operations

In 2005, Rebuilding Together’s Gulf Coast Operations Initiative was launched in response to the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. We are well on our way to fulfilling the goal of our Rebuild 1000 program, enabling hundreds of homeowners and their families to return to their homes along the Gulf Coast. The Gulf Coast Operations Initiative continues to rebuild low-income homes and to develop the capacity of our Gulf Coast affiliates, from Mississippi, Louisiana, and Southeast Texas. Read more...

Upcoming Gulf Coast Relief Trip: The University of Akron Alternative Spring Break Committee is currently planning the next Gulf Coast Relief trip. This year we are traveling to two Louisiana communities (Acadiana and Calcasieu) still ravaged by hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Ike to rebuild homes and help revive those communities and their families. All interested University of Akron students, faculty, and staff are invited to register for the trip. Participants must be at least 18 years of age.
