



Active: an undergraduate who has been intiated into life-long membership.
Alumni/ae: Greek members who are college graduates.
Bid: an invitation to a potential member to join a sorority or fraternity.
Chapter: the name applied to the local organization of a national fraternity or sorority.
Intake: the membership selection process for a historically black sorority or fraternity.
IFC: Interfraternity Council: the governing body of the fraternity system.
Initiation: a ritual ceremony through which new memebers become full members of a Greek organization.
Legacy: a potential member who is the sibling, child or grandchild of an active member or an alumni member of a Greek organization.
NPHC: National Pan-Hellenic Council: the national governing body for the historically black sororities and fraternities.
PHC: Panhellenic Council: the governing body of the sorority system.
Potential Member: a student who is interested in becoming a member of a Greek organization and has registered for the formal recruitment process.
New/Associate Member: a student who has accepted the bid or invitation for membership of a Greek organization but has not yet been initiated.
