National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC)

The local NPHC is the governing body of the historically African-American fraternities and sororities at The University of Akron. NPHC locally is affiliated with the National Pan-Hellenic Council, which represents all nine international organizations. NPHC at UA sponsors various educational, social, and service projects, as well as strengthens communication among chapters.

To join an NPHC organization, members must complete the Membership Intake Process through an individual fraternity or sorority. Most of our NPHC groups do not accept first-semester students. Typically a student must have achieved the following to initiate the Intake process:

- Attained at least second-semester Freshman status
- Attained at least a 2.50 cumulative GPA
- Other requirements vary for each group (i.e., involvement in campus leadership, community leadership, civic involvement, and community service endeavors).

Those interested in an NPHC organization are encouraged to contact individual fraternities or sororities directly, or visit the NPHC website.

A Message From the President

Welcome Fellow Collegiate Peer,

It is an honor to help further your future involvement and experience with our National Pan-Hellenic Council at The University of Akron. On the behalf of NPHC, as President, I encourage you to attend the programs NPHC has to offer as well as the programs that each organization of The Divine Nine hosts. Please come and participate in our programs, fellowship with us, and allow us to get to know you as you get to know us.

The NPHC family consists of non-profit organizations whose efforts are to help educate and further build our communities for a better today, tomorrow and destiny. Our labor demonstrates our victorious principles of community service, scholarship, sisterhood and brotherhood. Since the early 1900's to the present, all of the NPHC organizations have broken barriers and have overcome much adversity, and our legacy continues to grow stronger.

Yes, our gift of greekdom requires hard workers who are dedicated and highly motivated. Becoming greek is like an internship to the goals of your life because you will develop and utilize skills that will help you achieve the accomplishments you desire. With all NPHC organizations being international (chartering collective chapters in countries such as Germany, Asia, Jamaica, The United Kingdom, Africa, India and strongly throughout the Americas - to name a few) makes our networking and, in turn, our greek family world-wide.

I welcome, appreciate and support your interest in greekdom to strengthen our movement to change the world we live in.

Go Hard, Go Greek!!!!!
