



A week long event held in November, Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week brings greater attention to the difficulties that the homeless and hungry face on a daily basis and helps to promote the national endeavor to end hunger and homelessness. Previous events include: Oxfam Hunger Banquet, canned-food drives, homeless speakers, and volunteer opportunities at the Akron-Canton Regional FoodBank.
November 11th-17thSunday, November 11-12Cardboard City6pm-6am Kick off Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week by experiencing what it is really like to be homeless. During the event, individuals will construct their “home” for the night out of cardboard and when completed, passerby’s will see a “Cardboard City.” A donation of $5.00 is encouraged, which will benefit Community Support Services. |

Monday, November 12,All in it for Hunger! Casino Night 7pm-9pm Join us for a variety of casino activities from black jack and roulette tables to slot machines. Free snacks and prizes Admittance: Bring at least 4 toiletry items to be donated to access, inc. Co-sponsored by ZPN |
Wednesday, November 14thStop Hunger Now Educational Presentation and Meal Packaging Event6pm-9pm Stop Hunger Now is a Raleigh-based international hunger relief agency that has been fulfilling its commitment to end hunger for more than 13 years. Since 1998, the organization has coordinated the distribution of food and other lifesaving aid to children and families in countries all over the world. Learn about Stop Hunger Now’s vision of “a world without hunger” and join us in packaging 10,000 meals! Typically it takes 2 hours for 35-40 volunteers to package 10,000 meals in 2 hours or 30 minutes for 1 person to package 250 meals. RSVP is encouraged to participate. |
Thursday, November 15thBlanket Making for the Homeless11am-1pm Stop by the Student Union Trapezoid Lounge and help us make felt tie blankets for the homeless. These blankets will be donated to local homeless shelters in the Akron area. |
Thursday, November 15thOxfam Hunger Banquet and Dinner6pm-8pm An interactive simulation of poverty where guests are assigned the identities of people at lower, middle and upper income levels and provided meals according to those designations. This event will specifically discuss international injustices faced by women. Meals and attendance to the event is free for all UA students, staff, and faculty! RSVP is encouraged. |
Saturday, November 17thSuper Service Saturday at the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank11am-1pm Come volunteer at the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank with us and learn about hunger problems that affect our Akron community. Interested? Reserve your spot by RSVP is encouraged! |
