Civic Engagement Programs (serveAkron) offers a variety of service events and volunteer opportunities for students including Super Service Saturdays, drop-in service projects, donation drives and many more! Check out the links below to see how you can get involved today!

Super Service Saturdays | Spring 2017

All Spring

Super Service Saturdays provide a valuable volunteer experience in the local Akron community. All volunteer experiences are from 9am-11am and students meet in the Student Union Commuter Lounge at 8:30am before riding a Roo Shuttle to the agency.


Drop-In Service Events | Spring 2017

All Spring

Throughout the semester, stop by the Student Union Trapezoid Lounge near Starbucks to help with various service projects which include making fleece tie blankets, dog toys, coloring books, and much more! Visit the link below to learn more about the upcoming dates!

MLK Day of Service | January

Monday, January 16

Start the semester on the right note with some service! In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the President’s National call to service, United We Serve Initiative, students can register to volunteer with Nazareth Housing Development Corporation. Students will meet in the Student Union commuter lounge at 8:30am before riding on a Roo Shuttle to the service project from 9am-11am.


Spring Volunteer Fair | February

Wednesday, February 1

Are you excited to get involved around the community but don’t know where to start? Check out serveAkron’s Spring Volunteer Fair on the Student Union 2nd Floor Concourse. Numerous agencies from the Akron area will be attending to provide more information on volunteer opportunities.

Valentines for Veterans | February

Tuesday, February 14

Join serveAkron to On February 14 in the Student Union Trapezoid Lounge near Starbucks from 11am-1pm to help make Valentine Day cards and care packages for veterans! All cards were delivered to the Harry Donovan Jr. Valor Home of Summit County for Veterans.

Professional Clothing Drive | March

March 1-24

serveAkron will be collecting new and gently used professional clothing to be donated Akron Urban League. This organization seeks to improve the quality of life of the citizens of Summit County through economic self-reliance and social empowerment. Individuals can drop off items in the Center for Service and Leadership on the first floor of the Student Union.

Alternative Spring Break | March

March 25-31

Students have the opportunity to give back to a community or agency in need outside of the Akron area. Students will interact with fellow UA students and together, will work to achieve the common goals and tasks of their assigned trip. Participants will experience a rewarding service opportunity that may take them out of their comfort zone, but we hope they will walk away from the trip with a renewed sense of UA community pride and commitment to volunteerism.

Easter Egg Hunt Drop-In Service Event | April


Join serveAkron to stuff and package Easter eggs for an upcoming Easter Egg Hunt at Leggett Community Learning Center! Help prepare over 5,000 eggs for elementary students!

National Volunteer Week | April

April 23-29

serveAkron will celebrate National Volunteer Week! This week strives to inspire, recognize and encourage individuals to seek out ways to engage in their communities. Past events have included a clothing drive, drop-in service events, the Summer Volunteer Fair, Weekday Service Events, and much more!

Cuts for a Cause | April

Tuesday, April 25

The 4th annual Cuts for a Cause will take place on Tuesday, April 25! Stop by the Student Union Ballrooms for a drop-in haircut, ponytail donation (8 inches of hair), or a quick hair cut for $5 (min. donation)! All donations will be sent to Wigs for Kids and the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Foundation.

Summer Service Trip | May 2017


Join serveAkron for the 2nd Summer Service Trip! This 3 day experience is similar to our Alternative Spring Break but shorter. The trip costs $100 which includes all transportation, lodging, food, and recreational activities. Check back later in the semester for more information about the location and service projects!
