Q: What is a Hearing Board?
A: A Hearing Board is a proceeding that involves three faculty members and two student members that listen to statements from the accused student and/or witnesses. These members determine whether the accused student violated the Student Code of Conduct. If the student is in violation of the Student Code of Conduct, then the hearing board will determine and assign an appropriate sanction.
Q: Will the Hearing Board still proceed without the accused student’s presence?
A: YES! The Hearing Board will proceed whether or not the accused student is present and the outcome shall be communicated to the accused student through written correspondence.
Q: What sanctions may be imposed by the Hearing Board Members?
A: If the student is found responsible for violating the Student Code of Conduct, possible sanctions include, but are not limited to: indefinite dismissal, suspension, disciplinary probation, formal reprimand or warning, restitution, class/workshop/counseling attendance, educational projects, housing contract cancellation, housing transfer, trespass warning, removal from campus activities, etc.
Q: What can I do if I am not satisfied with the outcome of the Hearing Board?
A: If the student is not satisfied with the outcome of his/her Hearing Board, the student has the option to appeal the decision within seven business days of the hearing board. An Appeals Board will be convened if there are grounds for an appeal.
