Dean’s Advisory Council


There are a number of student organizations available for students enrolled in the College of Business Administration (hereafter referred to as the “CBA”). Most of these focus their attention on particular majors or topics of study. The few with broad, general interest are Greek letter organization with nationally established procedures, which require extensive true commitments. No organization currently exists: (1) to offer broad based programming for all CBA students, and (2) to provide a central clearinghouse and/or coordinating mechanism among all CBA student organizations. The Dean’s exist to link the faculty and administration of the CBA (through the Dean and Associate Deans) with the student organization.

Debonair Dance Ensemble


The purpose of this organization shall be to promote diverse members with a chance to express themselves in the form of dance.

Delta Sigma Pi


Delta Sigma Pi is a professional fraternity organized to foster the study of business in universities; to encourage scholarship, social activity and the association of students for their mutual encouragement by research and practice; to promote closer affiliation between the commercial world and students of commerce, and to further a higher standard of commercial welfare of the community.

Delta Sigma Theta


The principle purpose and aim of this chapter shall be: to augment the aims and purposes of Grand Chapter by the adoption and execution of the National Program adopted by the members of the Zeta Alpha Chapter to the Needs of our particular locale and circumstances.

Diversity Dialogues


The purpose of this organization shall be to extend the Collaborative Program (CP) in Counseling Psychology’s commitment to diversity, as stated in the CP mission statement, beyond the formal training offered in the Program. Through increased exposure to issues of diversity, through support of research on diversity, through various types of activities, and through open discussion, the aim of this organization will be to contribute to participants’ development as multiculturally aware individuals, both personally and professionally.

Doctoral Association of Arts and Sciences and Public Affairs (DAASPA)


The DAASPA shall represent the collective interest and promote the general welfare of the doctoral students in the College of Arts and Sciences and in the Department of Public Administration and Urban Studies. DAASPA shall promote and maintain communication between the doctoral students and the university administration and represent doctoral students within the College of Arts and Sciences and in the Department of Public Administration and Urban Studies. DAASPA shall administer doctoral students’ affairs within the limits prescribed by this constitution (hereafter to be referred to as the Constitution). DAASPA shall aid individual doctoral students with specific problems related to the university community. DAASPA shall act to stimulate social, intellectual, and political contact among doctoral students. DAASPA shall act to encourage mentor relations between faculty and members, promote fellowship among members, encourage scholarly research, encourage the attendance and participation of its members at conferences, and promote the interaction of researchers, practitioners and members.

Economics Club


The Purpose of this organization shall be to further the professional interest and knowledge of its membership, and to afford social and professional contacts among its members.

E-Docs


The purpose of this organization shall be to: Stimulate social, intellectual, and political contact among doctoral students. Encourage mentor relations between faculty and members, promote fellowship among members, encourage scholarly research, and encourage the attendance and participation of its members at conferences.

The Electronics Organization


The purpose of this organization is to advance the members’ level of knowledge of Electronics. This would include designing, theory, manufacturing, and applications of electronics in various technologies, to make the employment market in Electronics more accessible to the members by communication. Communication is important to offer field related jobs to the students. Part-time or full-time jobs can further reinforce material covered ion class, which aids in understanding while giving hands-on experience, to provide voluntary services to the Engineering and Science division of the Community and Technical College at the University of Akron to Promote fellowship and enrichment among all students.

Engineering Student Council


The purpose of Engineering Student Council is to serve engineering students by facilitating communications among members, promoting engineers education, organizing programs and events, resource of information about engineering student activities, and serving as a collective voice for Engineering Students.

Environmental Akron

The purpose of this organization shall be to enhance student opportunities to learn about and become involved in environmental law.

The Equestrian Club


The purpose of this organization shall be to provide to all currently enrolled students the opportunity to develop riding skills and the opportunity to all for all full-time students or alumni within the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) to compete in IHSA shows.

Fashion and Professional United


The purpose of this organization shall be to aid underrepresented minorities who are aspiring professionals, in both building personal relationships within their desired career field, and gaining experience in that field as well. These industry fields include, but are not limited to: Business, Fashion, Advertising, Public Relations, Multi-Media Broadcasting, Marketing, Entertainment, Travel, and Event Planning.

Financial Management Association


The purpose of this organization shall be to assist business students in learning about careers in the finance sector, to teach them how to increase their professional development, and to prepare them for a successful career upon graduation.

Friends Always Ministries (F.A.M.)


The purpose of this organization is to build and equip believers for the work of Christian ministry, reaching out to students (through prayer and evangelism) in order to see the kingdom of God established at the University of Akron.

The Future Physicians’ Club


The purpose of FPC shall be: to provide information of educational, social, and professional interest to FPC members and the surrounding community and to provide an opportunity for students with a common academic interest to exchange information and ideas relative to their future careers as physicians or other health professionals, and to help establish a basic orientation to, and preparation for, professional school requirements and curricula.

Garfield’s Own


The purpose of this organization shall be: to provide the official Color Guard to the University of Akron, to provide military funeral details to Local Veterans Groups i.e. VFW and American Legion, to present a positive of the Army ROTC on campus, to provide an opportunity for those interested in Army ROTC to learn more about it without making a military commitment, to serve the community with fund raisers and service projects and to provide a social atmosphere for the cadet corps and all University students.

Gathering of Potential Surveyors


The purpose of this organization shall be to inform and educate students about surveying and related professions. This organization will also provide a tutoring service for all surveying classes. Members of this organization will gain access to professional surveying, which will in turn lead to a greater chance at a job in the surveying field.

Gay/Straight Law Alliance

He GSLA shall endeavor in all equitable and practical ways to achieve the following goals and actualize the following purposes: foster the ideals of tolerance, respect, understanding, and equality in the community regarding the legal rights and privileges of all people, notably those individuals who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, and trans gendered, or gay-friendly. Develop law students interested and learning in gay, lesbian, bisexual, and trans-gendered legal issues through educational programs. Provide a forum where students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni may come together to express themselves and discuss legal issues relevant to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and trans-gendered people. Work as an advocate in developing and implementing University policies that guarantee the right against discrimination based on sexual orientation. Encourage and support agencies that work at meeting the needs of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and trans- gendered communities. Function as a supportive and educational for the community.

The purpose of this association shall be to promote interest in the field of geography and planning on the University of Akron campus.

The purpose of this organization shall be to promote the interdisciplinary study of gerontology on campus; to promote fellowship among students, faculty, staff, professionals, and other interested in the field of gerontology; to provide learning and networking opportunities in gerontology; to assist community programs serving older adults.

Golden Key International Honour Society


The purpose of this organization shall be to recognize and encourage scholastic achievement and excellence in all undergraduate fields of study, to unite with faculty and administrators in developing and maintaining high standards of education, to provide economic assistance to outstanding members by means of both undergraduate and graduate scholarships, and to promote altruistic conduct through voluntary service.

Gospel Choir Ministry


The organization shall strive to achieve the following objectives: to glorify God in the beauty of holiness without regard to denomination through music and song and to edify my brothers and sisters and bring about unity and spiritual inspiration among the campus community.

The purpose of this organization shall be to enhance the development of students pursuing graduate degrees in business through academic, social, and professional programs.

Graduate CROW (Committee for Research On Women/Gender)


The purpose of this organization shall be to meet as a group of graduate students from several disciplines on campus in order to share ideas and research on women and gender, and to provide cross-discipline feedback on other students’ work in the manner of a true interdisciplinary women’s studies program.

Graduate Nursing Student Organization


The purpose of the Graduate Nursing Students Organization shall be to provide a means for communicating the concerns and interests of the graduate students in the graduate program by providing the following: friendship, support and information to graduate nursing students, a closer relationship between graduate nursing students and faculty in order to promote the ideals and philosophy of the College of Nursing, student representation in governance of academic affairs by including student representation on graduate academic committees at the College of Nursing, students representation at student affairs, to facilitate communication between students, the assistant Dean of Graduate Studies and the University Administration and to enhance graduate nursing students’ academic, social and professional life.

Graduate Student Government


The purpose of this organization is to act as the official representative body of and forum for the graduate student body actively enrolled at The University of Akron in compliance and bylaws, exercise the right for open communication with the university populations and provide advice to university administration, as appropriate on decisions and concerns that may affect the welfare of the graduate student body, responsibly inform the graduate student body of issues relevant to its welfare, allocate funds received from the University extra-curricular activities fund in compliance with the funding policies of the university as set fourth and to encourage social and academic contacts among graduate students in all disciplines served by The University of Akron.

Green Dragon Kung Fu Club


The express purpose of this club is to provide a medium within The University of Akron community through which intimate exposure to various Chinese Martial Art forms may be attained. Specifically the instruction provided will involve three general, interrelated: Heath, Strength, and stamina of the practitioner. The beneficial effects of these diverse programs can be extraordinary, and manifest themselves not only physically, but in terms of mental acuity and emotional stability as well, Programs of instruction in Chinese Art forms involving movement comparable to dance and/or free exercise in gymnastics, but characterized by slower, softer, and more fluid transactions. Most of these are somewhat unorthodox, all are eventually pertinent to self-defense, and many are highly regarded (to the point of secrecy) in the Chinese culture and extremely rare in the Occidental cultures, programs of instruction in the major Chinese fighting sciences.

The Guitar Club


The purpose of this organization will be: to provide nexus for aficionados of the guitar throughout the college community, to provide the wherewithal to bring prominent guest artists to campus for performances and master classes, to create an administrative body to coordinate campus and community appearances of the students, to foster and encourage appreciation of high quality guitar music throughout the community.
