  • Interpret University policies, procedures, and requirements.
  • Refer you to appropriate resources, including Counseling Center, Career Center, Adult Focus, etc.
  • Address your academic questions and concerns.
  • Adhere to the highest principles of ethical behavior and maintain confidentiality. Your adviser will not discuss issues with parents or non-university persons without your written permission.

  • Help you select the right classes for your degree.

When should you see your academic adviser?

  • Not sure about your curriculum and course selection?  An adviser can assist with class selection and progress toward degree.
  • Not doing well in one or more class(es)?  An adviser can assist you with evaluating your situation.
  • Thinking about switching colleges/majors? An adviser can discuss the “what if” scenarios and assist with follow up paperwork.
  • Thinking you are ready to graduate?  See an adviser for a final plan of action and/or degree audit.
  • Need to withdraw from all your classes or leave the university?  Please don’t just disappear.  An adviser can review your options and direct you to other offices that may be of help.
  • Have a problem, but don’t know who can help?  Ask your adviser, and if she/he can’t help, then you will be referred to someone who can.
