Training Center for Fire and Hazardous Materials

The Training Center for Fire & Hazardous Materials is located on the campus of The University of Akron and is a part of Summit College. The University of Akron is a publicly assisted Division I metropolitan university which strives to develop enlightened members of society. UA/SC offers comprehensive programs (credit and non-credit) from associate to doctoral levels; pursues a vigorous agenda of research in the arts, sciences and professions; and provides ongoing service to the community.

UA/SC offers undergraduate students a wide choice of more than two hundred majors and areas of study leading to associate, bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees, including the only accredited Associate of Applied Science degree in Fire Protection Technology (click here) in the State of Ohio and the ONLY Emergency Management Bachelor of Science degree in the State of Ohio and one of fewer than ten in the country. In fact, UA/SC's Emergency Management program is the ONLY Accredited Emergency Management degree in the United States.

About the Center

The Training Center for Fire and Hazardous Materials brings The University of Akron's Summit College, government agencies and industries together into one comprehensive regional center to integrate educational programs; fire and hazardous materials training; and other related applications of fire and safety technology. The Center coordinates seminars and workshops presented by federal, state and local agencies and other related organizations. Training in all phases of hazardous materials containment, industrial fire brigade response and suppression, confined space entry, trench rescue and first aid. In addition, emergency management contingency planning and domestic terrorism preparedness have recently been included.  View Slide Show.

The second most active certified fire charter in Ohio, second only to the Ohio Fire Academy, UA/SC's Training Center for Fire and Hazardous Materials is always looking for new and better ways to provide more training to more students, fire departments, and businesses. We are pleased to announce our latest partnership: Cuyahoga Valley Career Center. Together, the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center and SC/UA's Training Center for Fire and Hazardous Materials and its other partners, the Medina County Career Center and the Medina County University Center, we plan to offer more comprehensive training throughout Cuyahoga, Medina, Summit, and other surrounding counties.
