The Emerging Technology Lab is a joint venture that is being led by the UA Libraries Systems. The first exhibition in the room will be a hands free computer that uses the Microsoft Kinect to enable the user to perform many day to day tasks without ever having to touch a keyboard or mouse. The system tracks different body parts and uses them to send the computer different types of commands. For example, the Kinect tracks the user’s right hand as the mouse, and will click when the user says “click”. The system is still in active development, and should be ready for public usage very soon. The Computer Science and Art departments are also assisting with developing uses and applications for the computer. Stop by Bierce Library and go to the back of the first floor to take a look.
