Alternative Credit

We are committed to your success at The University of Akron. As adult and veteran students, we understand that obtaining a degree in an efficient and timely manner is important to you. At this time, we have several alternative credit options available to assist you in expeding your degree completion.

Credit by Exam (CBE)/Test-Prep Tutorials (TPT)

If you have learned the material taught in a UA course, you can refresh your knowledge through a Test Prep Tutorial (TPT), and then earn credits through Credit by Exam (CBE).

A student interested in earning credits by special examination may do so with the permission of the dean of the student's college and the dean of the college in which a particular course is offered and by payment of a special examination fee. The grade obtained in such an examination is not permitted in the semester before graduation. Credit by examination may not be used to repeat for change of grade.

College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)

CLEP helps you receive college credit for what you already know, for a fraction of the cost of a college course.

Technical Experience Assessment Program (TEA) - Main Campus
Technical Experience Assessment Program (TEA) - Wayne Campus

TEA program allows you the opportunity to apply to earn up to 24 credit hours of technical credit.
