The November 2001 merger of the Evening Division and the Adult Resource Center has resulted in a new unit, UA Adult Focus, dedicated to the enhancement of services and programs for adult learners at The University of Akron.
American Council on Education Recognizes UA Adult Focus
October 2004 -- The American Council on Education (ACE) selected The University of Akron's Adult Focus program as one of five to serve as national models in an upcoming report on innovative and exemplary programs that assist low-income adult students. The report will be distributed to 5,000 college and university presidents across the nation. Of the five institutions featured, The University of Akron is the only four-year institution.
The University of Akron was one of more than 1,300 institutions that responded to an ACE survey examining services and programs for low-income adult students. The report is part of a three-year project conducted by ACE and funded by the Lumina Foundation for Education that aims to increase the access and success of low-income adult students in post-secondary education.
American College Personnel Association's Commission for Commuter Student and Adult Learners awarded UA Adult Focus title of Runner-Up for the 2004 Outstanding Adult Learner Program.
