Veterans Day

11/03/2017

Dear Colleague,

Our campus will hold several events next week to honor our nation’s veterans. However, University business will take me out of town on most of those days, so I want to thank you now for your service as a member of our country’s armed forces.

Thank you, too, for providing our University community with inspiring examples of sacrifice, patriotism and discipline. Most recently, several University of Akron National Guard students have interrupted their studies as they have been activated to provide hurricane relief in Puerto Rico. We are proud of their response, and also of our faculty and administrators who are taking extra steps to ensure these fine men and women maintain their academic standing while providing this service.

Our University will honor the contributions of veterans with scheduled Veterans Day events on Nov. 7, 10, 15 and 16. The official day of observance is Friday, Nov. 10, and events will include:

  • continental breakfast for all veterans
  • wreath-laying ceremony on Coleman Common
  • "Honoring Those Who Serve Celebration" in the Musson Veterans Lounge in InfoCision Stadium
  • Veterans Resource Fair at InfoCision Stadium
  • Veterans Day luncheon and recognition ceremony at Wayne College

Also scheduled are an American Legion Post 808 fundraiser on Nov. 15, and a Community and Veterans Career Expo Nov. 16. These are just the latest examples of why The University of Akron has long been considered friendly to military personnel and their families. If you have not visited our Military Services Center or UA Adult Focus, I urge you to do so to learn more about what our University offers veterans like you.

Once again, thank you for your service, and thank you for choosing The University of Akron.

Sincerely,
