Overview
The graduate civil engineering program at The University of Akron gives students the advanced knowledge, skills and training needed to design, build and maintain the infrastructure that supports modern society. This includes buildings, roads, bridges, water and wastewater systems, energy systems, seaports and airports.
The program offers both thesis and non-thesis options with master’s and doctoral degrees available. Students can specialize in environmental, geotechnical, structural or transportation engineering.
Faculty and students work together on real-world research projects that address today’s biggest challenges. These include highway and traffic design, bridge construction, buried structures, water and soil cleanup, structural damage detection and environmental impact and pollution control.
The Master of Science (M.S.) in Civil Engineering helps students strengthen their technical skills and advance their careers. For those already working in the field, the program offers the chance to apply classroom knowledge directly to their jobs. Evening classes are available to support working professionals.
