Polymer Science (PhD)

The Doctoral degree is awarded for the completion of a prescribed program of course studies, cumulative exams, a formal presentation, research presentation, and doctoral defense of the research doctoral dissertation. The Ph.D. in Polymer Science is considered to be recognition that the recipient has carried out independent and original research at the prevailing advanced level of polymer science understanding.    

Admission Requirements

• GRE
• Three letters of recommendation
• Statement of purpose

Students with an undergraduate degree in chemistry, physics, engineering, or polymer science with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better may apply.

Students holding a degree in biology or natural sciences will be expected to have taken the following additional courses on the undergraduate level:

• Calculus III and/or Differential Equations
• Organic Chemistry I and II
• Thermodynamics
• Physics I and II

For highly-qualified students lacking no more than one of the required courses, a special provisional admission may be given for one semester, followed by full admission upon student's successful completion of the undergraduate course.

Application Deadline

• December 1 (early consideration deadline) for Fall enrollment
• February 1 (final deadline) for Fall enrollment

Assistantship/Scholarship Information

Not all departments offer graduate assistantships. Students should inquire with the department directly to determine assistantship availability.
