Master of Science in Management: Supply Chain Management

About the Degree

The Master of Science in Supply Chain Management (SCM) is offered for students who want to pursue advanced study in Supply Chain operations. The program requires 30 credit hours of coursework, which includes six credits of foundational core courses, 21 credits of required coursework, and three credits of electives. Foundational core courses may be waived if the student has completed prior study in that area. Those students will be required to complete 21 credits of required coursework and nine credits of electives.

The University of Akron is pleased to announce that the Master of Science in Supply Chain Management has been approved as a federal STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) program.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS)/U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recognizes graduates of this program residing on student visas as eligible for an optional practical training (OPT) extension. While regular students are able to remain in the country and receive training through work experience for up to 12 months, students who graduate from a designated STEM degree program, such as our MSM in Supply Chain Management program, can remain for an additional 17 months on an OPT STEM extension.

Students in this field learn to become business generalists that understand all of the elements of the supply chain (logistics, purchasing, etc.) and operations management. The curriculum in this program includes courses that prepare a graduate to:

  • Manage the flow of goods, information, and funds within and across business organizations
  • Manage costs and create efficiencies
  • Use data analysis techniques to drive critical organization decisions
  • Develop and implement supply chain strategic plans
