Dr. Dreussi began teaching American Urban Society in CAST while she was a graduate assistant. She worked as a newspaper reporter, director of a nonprofit organization, research/ evaluation consultant and adjunct and visiting professor before joining the CAST faculty full time in Fall 2006.
Her areas of research include civic education and diversity. Dr. Dreussi co-authored a 2017 book entitled The Akron Story Circle Project: Rethinking Race in the Classroom and Community and has presented papers at more than 30 conferences at international, national, regional, state and local academic conferences.
As a co-chair of the Rethinking Race Steering Committee, Dr. Dreussi facilitates planning for the annual two-week series of multidisciplinary, multi-platform events on the UA campus called Rethinking Race…Black, White and Beyond.
Dr. Dreussi is a former president of the National Social Science Association on whose governing board she still serves. She is co-president of the Canton Area League of Women Voters, as well as a former representative to the Stark County Regional Planning Commission and northeast Ohio liaison for the Ohio Council for Social Studies.
