PFA Council, Soctoberfest roundup and Parents Weekend

The inaugural Parents and Family Association Council has elected its officers:
  • Rich Wilson, chair
  • Jeanette Foster, vice chair
  • Angie Gill, secretary
The council and officers can be reached by emailing pfa@uakron.edu.

More than 200 individuals attended Soctoberfest, many of them parents – thank you for your support! See the online photo gallery.

Save the date: Parents Weekend is February 20-22, 2015. Details will be available in a future newsletter.

Final exam schedule

Final exams are scheduled for the week of Dec. 8.

Exams are almost always scheduled at a time different than the normal class time, and almost always at a different location. Students should follow these steps to get their exam schedules, or ask their instructors when they return from Thanksgiving break.

Get FIT before leaving for break

Before students leave campus for a well-deserved break, make sure they have scheduled their spring 2015 classes, and have signed up for 15/16 credit hours, if possible.

Taking 15/16 hours a semester in fall and spring will help them graduate on time, have less debt and get into the workforce sooner. Learn more about the benefits of being and staying F.I.T.

Housing tips and UA services for Thanksgiving break

Residence Halls will remain open during break. Details about staying, food, transportation and more can be found on the Residence Life and Housing website.

For students living off-campus — please remember that, to a burglar, student housing around college campuses can be a temptation because the burglar knows that many of the homes will be unoccupied at times throughout the year. UA police and the city police will team up again to make periodic checks of unoccupied student homes. Please do not register for the program if someone else (like a roommate) will be in your campus home/rental over break. Learn more about this free service or call 330-972-5500. Registration will close Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 8 a.m.

Support your student with a finals week care package

A great way to remind your student that you're thinking of him or her is with a care package. UA's partner for care packages is Buckeye Baskets™ U Care Packages ®, which provides assorted snacks, food and UA logo items.

U Care Package's Fit for Finals box includes healthy snacks and quick-to-fix foods for study crunch time for your scholar. Order online (no handling fees), or by phone at 330-379-3341.

Your student will be notified by email to pick up his or her care package from the Barnes & Noble Bookstore in the Student Union. Be sure to include your student's UA email address when you order.
