Presidential transition: Wilson to rejoin law faculty

March 22, 2018

University of Akron Board of Trustees Chair Roland Bauer today announced that President Matthew Wilson has informed the Board that he plans to rejoin the faculty of UA’s School of Law, effective July 31, 2018, at which time he will step down as President.

Chair Bauer said, “The Board very much appreciates the time, energy and leadership President Wilson has provided to the University, as we have made significant progress on many different fronts to address the challenges we faced. He has put in place a number of initiatives that help distinguish UA and have moved us in the right direction. We respect his decision and wish him and his family well in this next chapter of their lives.”

Bauer noted that the four-month notice will enable the Board to work closely with University leadership to ensure a smooth transition. Bauer continued, “In the very near future, we will meet with representatives of key University constituencies to gain input on the appointment of an interim president.”

Bauer concluded, “A great strength of our University is the power of our collective resources and energies when we come together to meet the challenges in front of us. I would urge all of us to do that as we remain focused on continuing to advance the education of our students and build the distinctiveness and value of The University of Akron.”
