April 26, 2018

Thirty students and two faculty members were honored this evening at the 2018 Student Recognition Awards for the College of Applied Science and Technology. The ceremony was held in the Jacobson Common Room in the Honors Complex. Every year at the end of spring semester, the College recognizes a select group of students and faculty members for their outstanding accomplishments during the academic year. The event is attended by faculty, students, and family members.

The College offers approximately 25 associate degree programs, 14 bachelor's degree programs, many minors and certificate programs, and a variety of professional development opportunities. Currently, approximately 3000 students are enrolled in the College, many of whom are working on multiple degrees while earning minors and certificates along the way.

Daniel Mundy wins Dean Robert C. Weyrick Scholarship Award

Daniel Munday, a student in the Mechanical Engineering Technology program in the Department of Engineering and Science Technology, has won this year's Dean Robert C. Weyrick Distinguished Student Scholarship Award.

Established in 1989 and expanded in 1997, the Dean Robert C. Weyrick Endowment provides scholarship support for full-time students enrolled in Associate Degree technical programs in the College. A 1949 graduate of The University of Akron with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Robert C. Weyrick served as dean of the Community and Technical College (now the College of Applied Science and Technology) from 1974-1986. As dean, he recognized the importance of student scholarships and worked to increase private scholarship support. By establishing The Dean Robert C. Weyrick Scholarship, he provided his personal support for students in the College.

During Dean Weyrick's service as dean, the Distinguished Student Program was created to recognize and assist exceptionally talented students in associate degree programs. As a result, in 1997, Dean Weyrick expanded his scholarship program by establishing the Dean Robert C. Weyrick Distinguished Student Scholarship to assist students in this program.
