The James A. Dougherty Endowed Scholarship in Construction Technology was established in memory of James A. Dougherty in 2002 by his colleagues and friends in the construction industry. Dougherty was an Akron native and a lifelong area resident who had a long and distinguished career as a labor negotiator. He served as director of the Labor Relations Division of the Akron Builder’s Exchange for more than 30 years. He was known and respected for his fairness and honesty by both labor and management. Dougherty was active in his community and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

The associations establishing this scholarship are: AGC of Ohio, Akron Division; Labor Relations Division of Akron; Mechanical Contractors Association of Akron; and the Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors of Akron-Canton-Mansfield.
