The Tage and Irena Hojfeldt Memorial Scholarship was established in 2007 by Irena Hojfeldt in memory of her late husband. Chef Tage Hojfeldt immigrated to the United States from Denmark in 1952 and put to use the culinary degree he had earned in his native country. He was a chef at several Akron-area restaurants, but his career was defined by the 26 years he spent at the legendary Lou & Hy’s Restaurant on West Market Street, where Tage perfected the restaurant's renowned matzoh ball chicken soup and cheesecake recipes. His attention to detail and desire for perfection influenced countless aspiring chefs who worked under his tutelage. The Tage and Irena Hojfeldt Memorial Scholarship will perpetuate Chef Hojfeldt’s legacy to maintaining the highest standards in culinary training.
It is Mrs. Hojfeldt’s intention that these funds will support students who are pursuing associate degrees in the Summit College (now the College of Applied Science and Technology) Hospitality Management Program. Applicants must adhere to the scholarship application guidelines previously established by the Hospitality Management Program.
