How will the Affordable Care Act affect health care careers?

The effects of the Affordable Care Act on careers in health care will be discussed by a local panel of experts on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m. in the Taylor Institute at on the fifth floor of the Polsky Building at The University of Akron. The event is open to the public.

UA's College of Business Administration is hosting "Health Care Careers After the Full Implementation of the Affordable Care Act" and will feature William Considine, president and CEO of Akron Children's Hospital, as moderator. Panel members include:

  • Martin Hauser, CEO of SummaCare
  • Beverly Bokovitz, chief nursing officer, Akron General Medical Center
  • Charles T. Taylor, dean of the College of Pharmacy, Northeast Ohio Medical University

Discussions will focus on how the changes in health care, due to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), will likely affect the health care job market and industry, and how the ACA is going to impact jobs for those currently working in the industry and/or hoping to someday work in the industry.

Since UA's MBA offers a concentration in health care management and a health care management certificate, some UA students are likely to be concerned about these issues. School of Nursing students and students studying in the health professions also will likely be interested in the topic.

Faculty, staff, students and the public are invited to attend this timely panel presentation. RSVP to Kristina Floyd at
