Health and Wellness

Along with its excellent academic and research programs, The University of Akron offers its students a great environment in which to learn and have fun. When not in class or hitting the books, check out the wide choice of fitness and recreation options. From climbing to kayaking, weight training to tai chi, there really is something for everyone here.

Rec Center

UA’s Student Recreation and Wellness Center was recently named one of the 25 best recreation centers in the nation by bestcollegereviews.org.

What can you do at the Rec Center? You can bike, run, shoot hoops, swim, play ping-pong, climb a 53-foot wall and join any number of group-exercise classes, ranging from yoga to cycling to Zumba.

We offer a full slate of intramurals and an outdoor-adventure schedule that includes hikes in parks (including some a night!), climbing clinics/outings, kayaking journeys and mountain-biking trips. More.

Fitness and intramural sports

Students can play in a variety of intramural sports and clubs, including traditional favorites like volleyball, basketball and flag football, as well as some new things, such as floor hockey, canoe battleship, sand volleyball, kin-ball, futsal and ultimate frisbee. More.

Student Health Services 

Student Health Services is available 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to provide students, faculty and staff with convenient medical care, including the treatment of minor injuries.

Health Services also provides health education, wellness promotion and risk reduction programming to students, faculty and staff. More.


Counseling Services

The Counseling Center offers free, comprehensive psychological services to current students. A culturally diverse staff of licensed psychologists and doctoral trainees provide psychological counseling and psychotherapy, and outreach and consultation to the University community. More.
