Accessibility Office

The office is available remotely during normal business hours: M-F from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • All appointments will be conducted via phone or virtually
  • Current students already registered with the Office of Accessibility should log into STARS and their University email for frequent updates and critical communication related to accommodations and services
  • Students should connect with their assigned Disability Specialist to help navigate current accommodation plans
  • See answers to your questions about accommodation during this period

Advising

Career Services

Counseling

The office is available remotely during normal business hours: M-F from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • Psychologists and doctoral psychology interns are providing counseling and consultation services by telephone at 330-972-7082
  • Students who are current clients and Ohio residents: psychological services will be provided
  • Out-of-state students or students who are not a current client: refer to CTC web page for referral info or call us for further referral assistance
  • Our website has a number of resources available to help.

Dean of Students

The office is available remotely during normal business hours: M-F from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • Every student concern requires careful attention and consideration, especially during this difficult time, no question is too big or too small
  • All appointments will be scheduled in advance, drop-in appointments will not be accommodated until the University resumes in-person class instruction
  • Appointments will be through WebEx or by conference call (your preference)

Dining

  • As of May 11, Rob’s Café and its convenience store located in Robertson Dining Hall are closed for the summer.
  • For access to the Campus Cupboard or for help with food insecurity, contact ZipAssist.

Financial Aid

  • Advisors are available by telephone at 330-972-7032 or toll free at 1-800-621-3847
  • Students may also chat live with an advisor by visiting our 24/7/365 online support center
  • To schedule a personal appointment, contact our director of student financial aid, Jennifer Harpham
  • Students may upload documents to Office of Student Financial Aid through their My Akron portal

Health Services

  • All visits by appointment only, M-F from 1 - 4:30 p.m.
  • We will continue to accommodate same-day appointments as necessary

Registrar

Representatives are available remotely M-Th from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., F from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Residence Halls

  • Residence halls are closed for the semester. For residents who still have belongings in their rooms, our residence-life professionals will send an email inviting you to make an appointment to retrieve your items. Residence Life contact information.
  • Incoming student mail will be returned to sender. Here's how you can avoid that.

Roo Express shuttle

  • The Roo Express shuttle is suspended until campus reopens
  • All shuttle routes operated by the Akron METRO, including the Downtown Akron Shuttle (DASH), are still running, and offering FREE rides during this time

Study Abroad

  • The University will not approve participation in any study abroad program, at least through May 31, offered by any other provider.
  • If you have already been approved for participation, the University’s decision to cancel all University-sponsored travel supersedes that approval.
  • Students who nevertheless participate may not be able to transfer those credits to The University of Akron.

Student Conduct and Community Standards Department

Tutoring

Face-to-face tutoring in Bierce Library and the Polsky Building is suspended until further notice. However, The University of Akron is a member of the Ohio eTutoring Collaborative, which provides an online eTutoring platform allowing undergraduate students currently enrolled at UA the opportunity to receive virtual assistance from trained tutors in the following academic areas:

  • Algebra
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Biology
  • Calculus
  • Computer Programming
  • Computer Science
  • Chemistry
  • C++ and Java
  • Math
  • Microsoft Office
  • Physics
  • Statistics
  • Writing Lab (Asynchronous)

To access tutoring assistance in these areas, student should visit Ohio eTutoring Collaborative online. Tutors can assist with specific questions, but they are not course instructors and cannot teach course content.

University Libraries

Most staff at each location is working remotely and available by email.

  • Bierce Library, Science & Technology Library, University Archives, and Computer Based Assessment & Evaluation are closed until further notice
  • Library resources can be viewed from home
  • OhioLINK lending and borrowing is suspended until the state system is reactivated. Local library material requests, Course Reserve requests, and Interlibrary Loan material requests will be delivered electronically or uploaded to Brightspace course pages whenever possible. Book or media requests will be mailed by USPS to patrons who respond to a notification email with their current mailing address.
  • University Libraries will extend material due dates and eliminate overdue fines when operations continue
  • Questions about available library services can be submitted through AskUs at uakron.edu/libraries/ask.dot

ZipAssist

We can help with food insecurity and emergency financial needs, including tuition and fees, emergency assistance, personal matters (mental or social needs) and academic concerns.

  • Able to deliver support via web-conference calls and phone.
  • A member of the ZipAssist team will contact the student to discuss campus and community resources. Access to food can continue through Zips Care Packages – pre-bagged items – and requested through the Campus Cupboard.
  • Students seeking resources and support and/or access to technology during the delivery of online classes should contact ZipAssist for resources and referrals. Use the Help-A-Zip Referral Form to request assistance.
