W. Gerald Austen Endowed Chair in Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering
The University of Akron, College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering seeks to fill the W. Gerald Austen Endowed Chair in Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering faculty position at the Associate or Full Professor rank beginning in August 2020. The ideal candidate would lead an active research program in Biomaterials broadly defined but the following areas would be of particular interest: addressing current and emerging biomedical needs through biomaterials design, interfacing synthetic biology and biomaterials,biomaterial focused advancement of tissue engineering, and biomaterials related areas focused on convergence research.
The faculty member recruited as the W. Gerald Austen Endowed Chair is expected to have a track record of leadership in Biomaterials as demonstrated by their research productivity and funding, publications, mentorship of students, teaching and service to their institution.The candidate is expected to work collaboratively within the institution and across institutions. In addition to bringing a highly visible funded research program in biomaterials, the successful applicant will be expected to direct graduate and undergraduate student research; teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels; and contribute to the functioning of the department, college, and university through service on committees, centers, and outreach activities.
The University of Akron, with 19,000 students, has a world-class history in polymer science and polymer engineering dating back to 1910. The Department of Polymer Science (DPS) is part of the College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering. DPS currently has 18 full time faculty and 214 full time graduate students.
