New World Performance Laboratory receives travel grant, James Slowiak
UA Theatre Arts faculty James Slowiak and Jairo Cuesta of New World Performance Laboratory (Akron, OH) received a travel grant from Network of Ensemble Theatres (NET) to go to Colombia in December and January. Slowiak and Cuesta will meet with Fundacion Varasanta Teatro (Bogota, Colombia) to share techniques in devising theatre events that concern indigenous populations of Colombia. These sessions will prepare Slowiak and Cuesta for a trip to the Amazon region to engage in dialogue with the Uitoto tribe concerning oral tradition, embodiment, and cultural reverberations of the exploitation by the rubber industry. This research will help in the devising of NWPL's Devil's Milk Trilogy concerning Akron and its relationship with rubber.
Congratulations to UA Theatre Arts faculty, James Slowiak
When James Slowiak, UA Theatre Arts Faculty, is off-campus, he continues producing theatre as Co-Artistic Director of the New World Performance Laboratory (NWPL)! In Spring 2015, James and NWPL received a $15,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to support the development of a new theatre work, "The Devil's Milk Trilogy."
