Newly certified National Board teachers announced

11/20/2012

The University of Akron offered a National Board Renewal Certification cohort during the 2011-2012 school year.  Financial support was provided through the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation in offsetting some of the certification cost.   Nine candidates were in the cohort, and all nine succeeded in recertification.  This rigorous process required candidates to identify four Professional Growth Experiences and write to their work in these experiences.  Videos and various artifacts were required to support their writing.

The nine newly certified National Board teachers are

  • Matt Brown, Adolescent and Young Adult Math, Plain Local Schools
  • Susan Chunn, Music, Hudson City Schools
  • Patricia Gonzalez, Early Childhood Generalist, Akron Public Schools
  • Michelle Meuler, Middle Child Generalist, Medina City Schools
  • Sally Olivera, World Languages, Cuyahoga Falls City Schools
  • Rick Pinkava, Career and Technical Education, Cuyahoga Valley Career Center
  • David Steirer, Early Adolescent Math, Medina City Schools
  • Scott Waseman, Adolescent and Young Adult Math, Barberton City Schools
  • Patricia White, Adolescent and Young Adult Language Arts, Cuyahoga Falls.

Congratulations to all!
