The University of Akron College of Engineering will honor its 2012 Distinguished Alumni at a reception and dinner Wednesday, April 18, at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field.
James V. Leonard
This year’s honorees represent excellence in electrical, civil and mechanical engineering.
The Distinguished Engineering Alumni Awards pay tribute to alumni who have gone above and beyond in service to professions and communities, according to Selena Myers, assistant director of alumni relations.
James V. Leonard '61
After receiving a B.S. in Electrical Engineering at UA, James Leonard, of St.Charles, Mo., earned a graduate degree in electrical engineering power at Washington University of St. Louis and an honorary professional degree in computer science at the University of Missouri at Rolla.
An expert in electrical and computer engineering as well as simulation, Leonard has been employed with Boeing BDS in Missouri for 49 years. He recently received the Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society Pioneer Award.
Bradley Lightfoot '85
Bradley Lightfoot
Bradley Lightfoot, of Akron, is the president of BWL Engineering Inc. and the outside structural/civil engineering department head for Chemstress Consultant Co.
After he received a B.S. in Civil Engineering at UA, Lightfoot earned a Certificate of Architecture Design and an MBA at Kent State University.
Lightfoot has served on the College of Engineering's Committee on the Future of Civil Engineering advisory board and was a member of the College of Engineering Alumni Board.
David Peters '86
David Peters, of Canton, received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at UA in 1986. Peters is the vice president and general manager for Energy Solutions at Johnson Controls Inc.
He participated in Johnson Controls’ Extreme Leadership Program and earned an MBA at Central Michigan University. In 2008, Peters received the Energy Savings Performance Contracting Champion Award and the Streamlining Award from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Peters serves on the College of Engineering's Mechanical Engineering Advisory Board and he established the Co-Op Program for Energy Engineering at Johnson Controls Inc.
