AAFCS - American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences

The American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) is the only national forum where K-12 teachers, university educators and corporate executives collaborate to improve the quality of individual and family life. We are 10,000+ professionals who educate and influence generations of American consumers in our classrooms, our companies, and our communities.

The University of Akron chapter of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences began in 2000. The primary purposes of this group are:

  1. Encourage professionalism of student members at the local, state, and national levels.
  2. Conduct philanthropic activities to strengthen families in the community.

Membership in the local student chapter of AAFCS can be obtained in one of two ways:

  1. Pay national AAFCS dues at the student rate. Official student members of AAFCS receive the benefits of membership which include a subscription to the Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences as well as scholarship opportunities. There are no additional fees for University of Akron student members.
  2. Pay a local dues rate of $10.00 per year to affiliate with The University of Akron AAFCS chapter only. Those who do not pay membership dues to national AAFCS may attend district, state, and national conferences under the student rate but will not be eligible for scholarship opportunities.
