Homecoming and Family weekend t-shirt Zip go the Zippers logo

The artwork of this throw-back style tee, includes the grandstands of Akron Memorial Stadium at Buchtel Field which opened in 1923 between Brown and Kling St. The image of Zippy kicking a football represents the original logo for Akron football after the mascot was created in 1953. "Zip go the Zippers" is a nod to our original athletic nickname, the "Zippers." The name was submitted in a contest by student Margaret Hamlin in 1927 to pay homage to a popular rubber overshoe with zippers manufactured by The B.F. Goodrich Company. The slogan is still used today in the UA fight song.
