Nominated by the Engineering Properties and Structures Division (EPSDIV), Wong is recognized for his contributions to developing graphite polymer nanocomposites, which led to world-wide and Frost and Sullivan citations for his technical leadership in the field. He was among the first to introduce nanoscale graphite platelets into thermoplastics using compounding process to form polymer composites for various industrial applications.

Wong introduced electrospinning into adhesion science, creating a new field known as the “electrospun polymer adhesives and blends.” He is recognized by SPE with 20 years of technical contributions to composites, foams, engineering properties and structures, post-yield fracture and large scale deformation of polymers and blends, and technical leadership in EPSDIV.

Previous UA honorees elected Fellow of SPE include Dr. Ronald K. Eby, Dr. Lloyd A. Goettler, Dr. James White, Dr. Robert Weiss, Dr. Sadhan Jana, and Dr. Avram Isayev
