UA professor named to board of directors of National Alliance Research Academy

The National Alliance Research Academy announced recently that Dr. Jill Bisco, associate professor of finance and director of the Risk Management and Insurance Program at UA, has accepted a nomination to serve on the board of directors for The National Alliance Research Academy. Bisco brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise that will support the organization’s mission to bring current trends, relevant data and valuable reference materials to support the success of designees and participants.

Hold, MBA, CRM, CISR, president and CEO of The National Alliance. “Dr. Bisco joins us at an extremely exciting time of growth and transformation. With the addition of these new members, this diverse and capable team will help create endless opportunities for The National Alliance to provide incredible learning experiences for insurance and risk management professionals nationwide.”

Lifetime of service

Prior to joining the faculty at UA, Bisco spent 24 years in the insurance industry. She began as an agent providing insurance/risk management services to individuals and businesses. Moving to the corporate side of the business, Bisco spent 19 years working in various roles for a carrier in Madison, Wis. She was an agency manager, a senior product development specialist, a market coordination specialist and finally worked as the director of Internal Controls and Audit. Bisco was also a registered representative and a registered principal for a broker/dealer in Des Moines, Iowa. Bisco continues to work as a consultant to her previous carrier in Madison.

Bisco is a member of numerous risk management and insurance associations and has published in the Journal of Risk and Insurance, Risk Management and Insurance Review, Journal of Insurance Issues, Journal of Insurance Regulation, Journal of Financial Services Professionals, Baltimore Law Review, PLUS Journal and the CPCU eJournal.

Bisco earned her Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation in 2005, her Certified Risk Manager (CRM) designation in 2008 and her Certified School Risk Manager (CSRM) designation in 2020 – all from the National Alliance for Insurance Education. She has served on the board of directors and is a past President of the Wisconsin Federation of Insurance Companies. She also serves as the second vice president of the Southern Risk and Insurance Association.

Bisco earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, and a master’s and doctorate in risk management and insurance from The Florida State University.
