TubaSummer

Tucker Jolly directs a recent TubaSummer concert on the grounds at UA.

TubaSummer — a sunny summertime version of TubaChristmas — will be held on Sunday, July 27, at 7 p.m. on Buchtel Common. The University of Akron School of Music is the sponsor of TubaSummer.

The free concert will feature summer favorites performed by tuba, sousaphone, baritone and euphonium musicians from throughout the region. It will be on the grass amphitheater adjacent to Guzzetta Hall and near the towering blue polymer sculpture by renowned artist, Dale Chihuly.

Guzzetta Hall is at 157 University Ave., across from E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall and the Polymer Science Building on the UA campus. The rain location is Guzzetta Recital Hall.

Audience members are invited to bring picnics, blankets and lawn chairs. Free and convenient parking will be available in the parking deck and surface lot on E. Buchtel Avenue, across from Guzzetta Hall.

Like Akron's popular TubaChristmas, TubaSummer has an enduring appeal: this summer is its 15th year. Tucker Jolly conducts, with special guest conductor Robert Jorgensen. Both are professors emeritus at the School of Music.

Musicians are invited to perform. The only rehearsal is the afternoon of the performance. To register to play, or for more information, call 330-972-8301 or trolly@uakron.edu.
