De-stress at University Libraries during pre-finals week
As the semester winds down and students gear up for exams, the University Libraries is working to reduce stress the week before finals. Monday, April 28 through Thursday, May 1, students will be able to take a break from studying and enjoy some free and fun activities.
No Heat, No Hot Water in Bierce
Physical Facilities will be making mandatory repairs to the high temperature hot water system outside of Bierce Library. There will be no heat or hot water in the building for several weeks. To maintain a warm environment, there are temporary heaters throughout the library. Once the repair is made, hot water and heat/air conditioning will be available once again.
Book-based Art debuts at Bierce
Give a book to Buzz Spector, and he’s likely to stack it up with hundreds of other books or tear it apart page by page.
Now he is collaborating with students from The University of Akron's Myers School of Art in "Thoughts as Pages, Stacks as Memories," a free exhibition March 12 through April 18 in the lobby of UA's Bierce Library. In addition to Spector's works, the exhibition will feature works created by students in a painting class taught by UA Art Professor Matthew Kolodziej.

The Opie Evans photography exhibit, which spans the mid-1940s through the early 1970s, opens Feb. 10 as part of UA's Rethinking Race series.
Upcoming Rethinking Race Events with the Libraries
The University Libraries is partnering with the School of Communications for Candid Conversations with Dr. Lin on Friday, February 7th at 11am in Einsteins. Dr. Lin, who teaches intercultural communication at UA, will use submissions from The Race Card Project display in Bierce lobby to start conversations about race, ethnicity and identity. Opie Evans Exhibit to Open Feb. 10th
The University of Akron Archival Services, a division of University Libraries, is pleased to announce the opening of an exhibition on the photography of Opie Evans at the Dr. Shirla R. McClain Gallery of Akron’s Black History and Culture with an opening reception on February 10th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Evans was a local reporter, broadcaster, publisher, and businessman and one of the earliest African-American photographers in Akron.
Archival Services Announces Completion of OHRAB Grant
Archival Services, a division of University Libraries, is pleased to announce the successful completion of a
grant to digitize, preserve and to make available online 153 historic technical reports from the Daniel Guggenheim Airship Institute, which was a part of the University’s College of Engineering from 1929 to 1949. The digitized reports, which are available online as fully searchable PDF documents, can be accessed at http://cdm15960.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/landingpage/collection/p15960coll3.
Bierce Library installing 'Race Card Project'
From Monday, Jan. 27, through Saturday, Feb. 15, UA students, faculty and alumni are encouraged to join in a conversation about race, ethnicity and identity by submitting their six-word race card essays in Bierce Library. The collection of candid submissions will be on display in the library throughout Rethinking Race 2014.
Gallery Reception to Honor Research of Science Faculty
